Wow, did we really never have a thread about this? If we did, I can't seem to find it.

Anyhoo, they've just announced the next batch of licenses that'll be joining the game. So not only do the characters from DC, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, The Simpsons, Back to the Future, The Lego Movie, Jurassic World, Portal, Scooby-Doo, and The Wizard of Oz get to play together, but now they'll be joined by Harry Potter, Gremlins, Beetlejuice, The Powerpuff Girls, The A-Team, Knight Rider, Mission: Impossible, Adventure Time, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Teen Titans, The Goonies, and more.

I could've sworn we did.

I guess now that disney is killing off their toy/game combo thing, Lego dimensions is going to have a lot less competition. Anyone played it, any good?

I enjoy it. It's really just a standard Lego game with every franchise ever grafted onto it, so if you like those, you'll love this.

That's kinda my only real issue with it...I love the concept and (mostly) the execution (aside from the Lego games all feeling a bit samey). I just wish it weren't shackled to the Lego art style. Give me Disney Infinity-esque figures any day.

I will say that while the individual level packs still have that Lego-game playstyle, they're beautifully done. Particularly the Doctor Who one; the level of detail and pure fanboy love that they lavish on each of these franchises is positively joy-inducing. To wit: each of the level packs comes with a fairly generously-sized level, as well as a themed hub world that has additional side quests and collectibles. Once you finish the main Doctor Who level (with the character actually voiced by Peter Capaldi) for instance, you access the hub world. If you die, you regenerate into the next Doctor in line, each one having a custom character model. And if you enter the TARDIS as one of those different Doctors, the music and TARDIS console matches that Doctor (and when the first two Doctors enter the TARDIS, everything's even in black and white!). And the fun of banging these disparate franchises together is a blast, especially when they're new enough to incorporate current content (some idle chatter between The Doctor [who voiced new dialogue] and Peter Venkman [who didn't, but they make good use of library quotes] has the Doctor contextually aware, asking Venkman "Who're you going to call? Judging by the state of your uniform, I'd suggest a dry cleaner.").

Ok, that sounds amazing. I'm definitely going to have to point my kiddo in that direction come birthday/christmas time.
