For whatever reason, their sign-up process was a pain in the *** (server load, maybe?). Stuck it out though, I want to play this game!

I tried signing up yesterday for about twenty minutes. It kept resetting back to the first account set up screen after scanning my computer. I've heard that it works better with ie though, so going to try that in a bit.

In...I better get into this beta. I've been having bad luck with the last few I've tried, though.

Signed up...was a pain, tho. It kept resetting to the initial signup screen even before I got to the system scan. It seems to not like to do the beta signup from the direct account signup, so I validated my account first, then went to the beta signup page via the main site.

Yup, and be sure to install java before trying to to the scan. This is also how I got it done, created an account, validated it, signed in with it, then went through the beta signup. Hopefully this will dramatically decrease the number of beta sign-ups, hooray better chances!

My bioware forums account doesn't work there, which is very odd.

I seriously hope the game runs better than this sign up process.

So I've submitted a system scan like a hundred times, and every time I end up back at the "Terms" screen or the original "Become a tester" screen. Am I in or is there some sort of confirmation?

I finally got signed up. It was quite a pain in the butt.

Make sure you have the radio button in your profile set to agree to be a beta tester. Make sure you fill in everything on the sign up page, I had to fill in both address lines and a back up phone number for it to take mine. Yes PITA. Maybe it's that way on purpose to weed out the weak heh.

There's a confirmation, Elessar.

I ended up having to use IE and add it to trusted sites so I could turn my Internet Security Zone settings down far enough that I wouldn't get the ActiveX prompt (because if I chose to install the ActiveX, it would take me to the beginning of the sign-up, and when I got back there, it would prompt me about it again... ugh.).

Even then, it took me a few tries.

So how long does the system scan take? Mine's been running for a few minutes now.

The first time I got the system scan to not error immediately, I left it running for 3 hours. I came back, rebooted my computer, logged in as administrator (instead of using UAC to raise the privilege of the browser), and it finished in about 2 seconds.

It did this to me as well. I went and installed java outside the site, went back and tried again, and it took seconds.

I tried three times to get the thing to work.

I don't care more than that. What an annoying, pos process.

Of course, upon reflection... maybe that's the kind of person they're looking for in a beta tester...

Thanks, this did the trick. I also discovered that actually scrolling through the terms and conditions broke the seemingly endless cycle of filling in the blanks.

20 Minute Preview.

I've been doing my best to keep my expectations for this game EXTREMELY LOW. But with videos like this, it's getting harder and harder to do.

Although, I am personally wondering if the "fully voiced" means that 75% of all dialog is subtitled alien speech. I will laugh if that's the case.

It's certainly compelling to see how the choices they made will pan out.

They're making the wrong pitch and going the wrong direction with this game. My hopes are steadily declining.

An MMO won't work because of the constraints the player base puts on developers. The Old Republic should be a persistent world server game with small groups playing through it ... 5-50, as opposed to thousands on each server.

I honestly wouldn't play it if each server was only limited to 5 - 50 players. I want massive space and land battles. I want to run into tons of different people of different races and classes. I want the "Massive" in "Massively Multiplayer Online Game." Not a single player game.

The downside is that you have to deal with Jedi's who say "n00b" and "rofl." But the upsides outweigh the downsides, in my opinion.
