The MMO habit that is.

Made my farewell post, and am shortly going to cancel my account.

I just don't have the time/drive for MMOs anymore. I want to focus on my physical/mental health as much as possible, and raiding 5 days a week simply is not going to help.

It feels oddly . . . liberating.

That's okay Rodahn, we'll let you hang around here for as long as you like. Won't even send you the invite a friend offers when they come up.

Heh, thanks, Micheal.

I have a feeling that there are other ex-MOPpers here.

I have found that Shards of Dalaya is a nice way to wean yourself, or give yourself a little fix when you need one. Since it's free, you don't feel like you need to play all the time to get your money's worth, keeping you going when you really feel like quitting.

Plus, it's a way better game than original EQ ... :)

I am currently MMOless. But that's because I am sick and tired with the direction Blizzard is taking the Warcraft storyline. It upsets me a great deal. You can bet your *** I'll be all over TOR when it is released, though. And probably Bethesda's MMO that they are working on...but TOR seems a lot closer than Bethesda's MMO(which hasn't even officially been announced, but it has because of that legal battle they are in with Interplay).

Way to go! I've been off MMORPG's for a while now. Too much time involved, and I've really been focusing on school/life.

Some of my friends are hopeless addicts though; it's kind of sad.

Don't go cold turkey, find something free to play to take the edge off now and then.

It doesn't really matter how you spend your time, it's all the same... your brain functions equally whether you're in a jail cell, playing WoW, reading a book, or running around somewhere.

I miss playing every now and then. I think maybe this summer I'll pick it up for about a month. Strangely, I really enjoy the older content more than the new stuff. I guess its mostly because there's a lot fewer people that I don't get bugged as much by others and I'm not really forced into group dungeons to do content.

Its fun to drop in every now and then. Don't be afraid to do so.

While your brain will still function normally, there are better rewards to be reaped from focusing your brain on real life pursuits. Not gonna get healthier playing MMO's when I could be at the gym. Not going to land a good career while arrowing orcs when I could be out looking.

Screeling, I may pop in from time to time to say hi to some people before my subscription runs out this summer. After that tho, I don't really foresee myself returning in the near future.

BUT is the "real world" just another artificial construct designed to keep our minds in check, whilst more insidious and incomprehensible plots unfold in the true reality?

Lol just returned to EQ in December - much more casual player friendly, still a few of the old guildies around which is nice :)

The only thing you are sure is real is your consciousness.

Logged back in over the last couple of nights to EQ2 and said hey to my old guildies.

Really miss the people :( And I suspect several would want me to return, but . . .

I just don't miss the game.

...whether or not this statement is true or false, it doesn't matter, because it is totally irrelevant to this thread. It's great that you have your own philosophies and like to share them but please learn to use discretion on when and where to share them.

However, your statement is obviously false, and even you don't believe in it. Here's why. Your brain function while in a jail cell, and brain function while playing WoW are not "equal" at all. I'd imagine, unless you are retarded, or demented or have recently suffered some type of brain trauma which would completely impair your ability to use logic, then you can obviously see that playing WoW is (or, can be) fun. It is a positive experience. Your brain likes positive experiences, it puts you in a good mood. Your mood influences everything your body and mind can do. When you are in a good mood, you have extremely clear thoughts, and are relaxed and your thoughts flow freely like water, you also realize that you can stop any time you want and do something else, so you're not in a "helpless" state which would either lead to your mind going into "flight or fight" mode or just becoming depressed when you realize your efforts are futile. When you're in a jail cell, it is a negative experience. When you're in a bad mood...all of those negative emotions cloud your ability to think. Your mind gets locked up and can't function. So yeah, I would say it DOES matter how you spend your time. The reason you don't believe in your own words is that you're here, on the Glade, posting them for all to see. You haven't killed yourself, you realize your life does have a purpose and there are some things in it you enjoy. You're obviously also not a retard and I seriously doubt you're demented, so you can either agree with what I've wrote and stop posting useless replies that 99% of the board will roll their eyes at and you'll wonder why, or you can go to hell. Haha, I'm just kidding about the going to hell part, but seriously, this is the dumbest f*cking statement I've read in a very long time.

Something evil is happening -- I find myself being strongly tempted to install the latest expansion and start playing again.

Must . . . resist . . . re-indoctrination.

I stopped playing cold turkey almost two months ago when my comp got some vicious malware on it (been letting a friend work on it in his spare time), and I'm really happy. It's really let me get away from the habit in a painless fashion, and I'm enjoying not gaming.

My work productivity has gone up, I'm back to being able to work 12-14 hour days and still spend time with the wife.

Maybe Lex has reached a state of consciousness on the level of Dr. Manhattan and considers the dead and living the same, because their molecules remain somewhere.
