My copy arrived in the mail today from Amazon and I'm having a hard time finishing Dead Space so I can tear it open. I already have enough unfinished games that I know that as soon as I start in on my long awaited sequel that I won't be playing anything else.

Curse you oh lack of time.

I'm still in the middle of Mass Effect 2, though I did pop this in the other day. Mainly to install to the hard drive. I did start it, but only played for like 5 minutes.

I'm about to crack this open. Unemployment + blown timers in WoW mean I'm going to try and tackle some of the 360 games I've missed over the last year or so hehe.

I'm working on this game right now. I put ME2 down after losing my saved game file. So far I'm liking it. It does feel very familiar to the first one. There are also a ton of questions I have regarding the storyline that I don't get.
Spoiler:
For anyone who can shed any light on the storyline, I'd appreciate it. I didn't finish the first game, but I've heard from friends what happened. They said that Andrew whatever his name is died and the main character floated to the top as all the little sisters were saved. They then said Rapture was basically destroyed or at least left in ruin.

So if that's true, I'm really confused about what's going on in this one. You start out in 1958 (at the beginning of Bioshock 2) where there's a cutscene of you (the big daddy prototype) getting shot in the head. Then you wake up 10 years later (which is baffling enough, but I'll forget about that for a minute). From what I understand, the first Bioshock took place in 1960, 8 years before Bioshock 2. So now that it's 8 years later, there's still little sisters and other big daddys, along with the new big sisters who are basically adolescent little sisters that have developed into freakishly agile and strong creatures.

If the little sisters were all saved, why are they still here 8 years later?

If you get shot in the head, why do you wake up in 10 years just fine?

If Rapture is in ruins, why does it look just fine when this game starts 8 years after the first game?

If little sisters were saved, how are there big sisters?

Or, were my friends just a little foggy when it comes to the storyline for the end of Bioshock 1? What really happened at the end of Bioshock 1? This whole storyline is a bit out there, so it's easy to get confused if you don't remember the first game too well.

Hrm.
Spoiler:
They may have gone with the bad ending as canon to Bioshock 1 - the one where you start killing the Little Sisters out of lust for ADAM, and then hijack a nuclear weapon..

Honestly, you should really just play through the first one, the story is excellent, but I'll attempt to give a quick run down. It's been a bit since I played it, so I'm a bit fuzzy on a few details.

Spoiler:
The game starts with the plane crash, and quickly becomes about stopping Andrew Ryan, who is the "bad guy." Fontaine guides you around what you're doing, and you get a little information here and there from different sources and such as to what happened: Andrew Ryan was attempting to stop a smuggling ring and basically triggered a civil war in Rapture.

About three-quarters of the way through the game you find out the truth; you're basically the genetically engineered child of Ryan, created by Fontaine; who turns out to be the guy that was running the smuggling ring. You have various codes implanted into your brain, so that when they're said to you you'll do things. One of these is the phrase "would you kindly" which when you find this out is pretty crazy, as Fontaine has been saying it to you throughout the whole game as he's guiding you along.

Depending on whether you save or kill the little sisters, you'll get one of two endings. Both are short, and you can probably find them on youtube without any issue. In the good ending, you escape rapture with the little sisters (some of them at least, it's unclear if you've saved them all or not). In the bad ending, you take over for Fontaine, leaving Rapture with the splicers. Neither has Rapture being destroyed.

There's a couple other things that I didn't mention, but they're not really that important. Haven't played Bioshock 2 yet, so it's possible they come into play somewhere though.

*edit* spoilered the Bioshock 1 info just for the heck of it.

How do you guys feel about the new hacking system? I liked playing pipedream before, but the fact you don't leave combat makes for more hectic action which is fun too.

I'm playing it on hard and boy is it tough.

I picked this up today. Excellent game, at least on par with the first. No surprise twist yet and I'm not sure if there will be. It seems that the character you are in the first one was a lot more hardy than you are in Bioshock 2. I find my health dropping a lot quicker this time around. Weapon upgrades are much more noticable this time around as well. I fully upgraded my rivet gun and it can catch people on fire. Totally awesome.

I also played a few Civil War multiplayer matches. I'm not huge on FFA or team based death matches normally(like in Call of Duty or Halo) but the plasmids make things very interesting.

I'm very surprised by the fun multiplayer. I had no idea it'd be this fun. I figured it'd be a quickly thrown together mode just to appease people after the single-player campaign.

Multiplayer is crashing a lot for me. I can usually finish a round, but will crash before the next round starts at the lobby screen. But, thankfully I'm not the only one and 2k is working on a fix.

On the bright side, I hit rank 6 and unlocked the grenade launcher and suddenly I'm a lot better at the game, lol.

EDIT:

Just finished the single player campaign. Liked the ending for this one a lot more than the first.

Spoiler:
No twists, which is fine. Lack of end boss was kinda lame, but the actual ending was much better.

OMFG, this multiplayer crashing bullshit is seriously pissing me off. They need to fix it and they need to fix it soon.

Honestly, I just didn't like it. There were some truly awesome moments such as
Spoiler:
One level where you play as a little sister, the flashes between what they see and the real world are staggering.

However, overall as a game, it left me a little sad. The original bioshock was truly groundbreaking, and this really did feel like another FPS where you walk into a room, trigger the enemies, kill them, and then go to the next room. Cool plasmids sure, but the "protect the little sisters" sidequests were atrocious, and the story overall just couldn't hold up to the legacy.

Heh, still haven't played it, got sucked back into Borderlands. My wife and I both plan on playing Bioshock 2 at some point, but it's not the burning need like the first one had been...

Bit of a necropost but here goes...

Finally started playing over the weekend. Nothing really mind blowing, but then again I have had low expectations after hearing the press about it.

I do kind of like the new camera, that's pretty slick. The rivet gun irritates the hell out of me, I haven't upgraded the shotgun yet but it's good at close range, but the .50 is kind of disappointing in it's muzzle climb, even after adding the compensator upgrade. I don't remember the tommy gun from the first game being so bad when you upgraded it...
