I've been given the opportunity to play these games(from what I understand, the original has been pretty damned rare for a long time). How self contained are these games? As in, will I be upset if I play all three because the story is left on a cliffhanger? |

The first two games tie loosely together. The third game is its own animal entirely. All three of them are self-contained...that is, they all have their own beginnings, middles, and ends to their respective stories. I still thankfully have my copy of the original. The second, in particular, is one my favorite games. |

Oh good. I was worried since I heard they all tied together kinda sorta. I wasn't aware of the extent. |

Like I said, the first and second do, but it's mainly through a character, not the story per se. The third takes that kind of Final Fantasy-esque turn toward another story entirely. I think the events of Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 happened, but they're pretty much ancient history, on another continent, and have little to no bearing on the matters at hand. |

The second bases itself somewhat heavily on knowing the motivations and character of the major returning character. The third has callbacks to the second, but does not tie in to the second beyond those and the central items and concepts. |
