Post subject:  Survey: Game Trading Question

When the time comes to trade in your old games for something else, would you rather:

A.) Go to your local game store and risk not getting much money, but have the ability to immediately get your game and see its condition?

B.) Use a service like Goozex.com were you send off your games to the site's warehouse and receive points, allowing you to straight-up trade on a 1 for 1 basis (or 2 to 1, with points left over), but possibly having longer waits and not truly know the condition of what you are getting?

C.) Put them up on Craig's List or eBay (or similar service) and take your chances with what those services involve?

D.) Go to a pawn shop?

E.) Use the inheritance method (i.e. give your old games to a family member/friend)?

F.) Some other method (Please specify)?

G.) I rarely/never give up my games.

I don't trade my old games in. I still have my Atari games lying around somewhere...

I think Craigslist gives you the most money for your game, since it gives people a chance to still get it the same day. Even with overnight shipping, eBay doesn't satisfy the instantaneous urge to play a game. That's why people tend to go to Gamestop and get ripped off. At least they get to play their game the same night.

While it may take longer to sell it on Craigslist, I think you'll get the best deal selling it. There's too much competition on eBay to make great profits on games, in my opinion.

Personally, I don't trade games back. I used to when I was a broke kid, but I just value my collection too much these days to give them away to Gamestop just because I like some new game.

Once something becomes mine, it remains such.

Selling them yourself through some service like ebay is more profitable than gamestop, they give you like 10% (maybe) of what they'll sell it for. I keep good games, but will usually find a way to off load crap I couldn't finish, like Mirror's Edge and Velvet Assassin.

I don't sell my games, and I only buy used if I can't find an older game in another manner.

I give old consoles to my nephews, as long as I have a way to play the games still on a newer console.

Mostly this. Sometimes, I'll buy a console game used if it fits into the weird time period where the new ones haven't gotten a significant price cut yet, but there are enough used ones to drive the price down so they're more than the pretty insignificant %10 or so savings you usually see. If I can buy used for $30 instead of new for $40, I'll sometimes go for it.

But I buy more PC games, really, and what with keys and copy protection, I never buy those used, and lose respect for retailers who will buy (and sell) PC games used.

For years I could honestly say that I had never traded in a game.

Last week I traded in all of my Wii games for about $130. Too lazy to do the Craigslist thing, would probably trade again in the future. I really hate Gamestop, though, that's my only gripe. I will also never buy used games from them, because I'd rather get it new for $5 more.

Except for my Madden games, I trade them in as soon as I've beaten them or they no longer intrest me.

When I lived back home I did a lot of trading in at EB Games but I only did when they had deals like "Trade in 3" etc etc

I never fully understood the GameStop hate.

Sure, they have policies that are annoying and stupid, but they're a retail outlet not dissimilar to thousands of others out there.

You may not get a whole lot for your trades, but at least you can ask to see the condition before you buy, and statistically, the used condition will not be that bad.

I tend to use Gamestop for the most part. Craigslist tends to be frustrating and I just don't have the time to wait out a better deal. Gamestop usually offers games at a price I'm willing to pay.

I just don't like the GameStop monopoly, and the ridiculous profit they make on used games.

Yeah, but if you think about it, that ridiculous profit also pays for your Madden 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 that sits on their shelf forever.
