Anyone playing? Roommate has a free month and I've always wanted to try it so I'll be making my first appearance. |

Tried it. It was the most soul-crushingly boring MMO experience I ever had. I hope you have fun, but I can't figure out how anyone could. |

I liked how they had cutscenes at the end of quest arcs, but to actually get to the end of those quest arcs...well, it wasn't fun. And it had the worst interface I've ever dealt with in any game ever. And there's no such thing as soloing. |

There is now. Apparently all classes can solo to 75. |

There would have had to have been a massive overhaul if you can solo to 75 now as any class. |

I just got back on yesterday after a 3 year hiatus. A lot of the game has changed but I believe it is for the better. Leveling is definitely a grind but each level feels earned when you get there. Character name is Valarius on Valefor server. |

Well, I'm Lenas, a Taru RDM on Diabolos. Maybe I'll chronicle my misadventures here. |

A fellow RDM, glad to have you. Feel free to ask any questions you might have (always happy to help) and I look forward to reading about your adventures in Vana'Diel. FYI - It is possible to change servers through World Pass or just deleting and remaking if you aren't too far in. A couple of recommended websites to get you around: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Main_Page http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/ edit: added websites. |

It's pretty hard to get started. I've already done the registry hacks to make it look a little better. I've got Windower + spellcast/recast plugins, as well as ApRadar 3 map overlay. I have yet to fight a mob, know where I'm going, or know what I'm supposed to be doing. The complete lack of a tutorial is pretty bothersome. |

Windurst is one of the more confusing city maps of the 3 nations. If you want to fight mobs to level you need to head to East or West Sarabatura (sp?). Be sure to talk to an npc near a gate and have them cast signet on you before you leave. This enables you to get crystals for kills that are a good way to make money when getting started. They've also added a "Fields of Valor" which I believe is the floating book which can give you added enhancements like regen/refresh to help with downtime between kills. Always be sure to check an enemy mob before you fight it and I wouldn't recommend fighting anything above Tough or Very Tough by yourself. They do just pretty much throw you into the mix. There is a pretty big learning curve but they have a mentor service available that draws on vets to help new people, look for an NPC with "A.M.A.N." in Windurst Waters to access this. Let me know if I can help answer any questions for you. |

There definitely has been a huge overhaul to the mob difficulty where you can feasibly solo to 75. You can still do it faster in party but it's actually possible with each class.
