Post subject: | Batman Arkham Asylum vs GOTY Edition |
Farsky mentioned the GOTY edition of Batman Arkham Asylum came out. Doing a quick Google search yielded that the difference between the original version and the GOTY version are 6 additional challenge maps and some cheap looking 3d glasses. Best Buy has the original for $40 and GOTY for $50. Is it worth spending the extra $10? I generally don't do the extra maps in games so I'm guessing not worth it for me. Also, is there any compelling reason why this game would be better on the PS3 over the 360, which is what I usually buy games for? |

I think you can play as the Joker in the PS3 version? But that may have been a pre-order bonus. I dunno. |

It wasn't a pre-order bonus, just extra content on the PS3. However, it was relegated to the Challenge Rooms, and the GOTY version adds that content (Challenge Rooms and the Joker as a playable character) to the 360 version. I want the 360 version, partially because the 3D piques my interest, but that's still too gimmicky to drop the money on the game for just that; simply put, the 360 version looks better. Here are some good screen comparisons between the PS3 and 360 versions. Plus, for most games, I prefer the 360 controller, and now that I have a shiny new 360 Elite and not the gimpy launch-day machine, I'm gaming far more on it. The PS3 is still the Blu-ray/DVD player, and Phe games on it (the smaller controllers are more comfortable for her tiny, tiny hands; plus, she loves LittleBigPlanet and Dragon Age: Origins, which we bought on the PS3), but the 360 is my primary game box. |

Wow, that Review pretty much destroyed any faith I have in Lens of Truth. |

I finally tracked down a copy of the GOTY edition and picked it up today. I have to say that the 3D is handled rather well. The game's underlying code is unchanged; the 3D a video post-processing trick. However, while the stereoscopic system (TriOviz, whoever they are) uses the magenta and green anaglyph system, a few minutes after putting on the glasses, your eyes do seem to largely adjust to the color bias and compensate. It's not quite as perfect as looking at the "pure" image, but the visual difference isn't off-putting, and the 3D is a fun mode in which to play. Obviously, the effect can be turned off at any time, but I will say I enjoy playing in that mode. |
