That sounds very awesome. I like that it takes place over an entire decade. Gives a lot of room for development in various areas. Also, I like that it seems to have nothing to do with your original Dragon Age character. Not that I didn't like the original(I love it, probably my second favorite game of all time), but there were so many god damned decisions you had to make that creating a sequel to cover all of those choices would be damned near impossible and it would have upset me if they just picked things and made them canon. Now they can keep things vague(something I always expressed they should do when I frequented the Bioware forums) when dealing with the previous installment.

Now I wonder if the insert that came with Awakening with the date on it is the release date. The website doesn't say anything about the release date, but we can pre-order later today, so the date will probably be released then.

I sure hope the main character is voiced this time.

I'm going to guess he isn't going to be. I could be wrong, but unless they are going to limit you to one race, I don't see them having three different voice actors per gender. I don't have a problem with it, either. I like to voice my own characters, anyway.

I'm sure it would be impossibly difficult to record six more voices in the dozens that they've already got.

As good as it sounds, I'm kind of disappointed they still only have three classes. I know you can specialize to become more unique, but still.

Re: Voices

Apparently it wont matter, because your character is set this time. Someone named "Hawk" who can be male or female, but always human. If the main character isn't voiced this time, it'll be retarded.

I dunno. I'd like to see them use some of the things if they could import you game to see what you decided. For instance, how are the dwarves doing now? Do they have a good king that's a bad king or a bad one that's a good king? Is there a guy/girl walking around out there with the soul of an Old God/demon dragon? Is Flemeth dead? Who rules Ferelden? Not necessarily main story things, but still.

Of course, given what they did with Awakening that's not likely to happen. Sigh.

Also, it makes me a little sad that they aren't doing more blight stuff. I wouldn't mind skipping a century of so to the next one. But, really, they left exactly the right number of dragons for there to be a trilogy of blight-themed games and after the archdemon... well bosses that aren't evil gods seem sorta... not evil gods.

If I had actually bothered to finish the first game, I'd be pretty pissed that all of my decisions were glossed over.

Eh.... the game concludes, no matter which way you play it. I am fine that none of my characters will return, as it has a solid ending.

The idea of playing it over a decade made me think of "Fable Age II" though.

Actually, by Abandoning the ability to play the same hero through all 3 installments, I'm pretty much done. That was the stated intent when this started ...

Guess you'll just have to stick with the Mass Effect trilogy, Khross :P No idea why you gave up on the first one before the halfway point.

Because Mass Effect sucks ...

Yeah, I can see how you'd hate a recurring hero character throughout three installments with decisions from each game affecting the next. In other words, exactly what you said you wanted from DA.

Oh, no, that's not my problem. I like Shepherd in fact. He's pretty awesome. I just don't like how Mass Effect plays. The sequel theoretically fixes most of my gripes, but ... well, yeah ...

It's cool if you like it. It's cool that Raltar thinks it's likely one of the best games ever. Just not for me.

It doesn't suck in the same way as Jade Empire.

Have you ever given the sequel a shot? I'd be more than willing to explain whatever you missed in the first installment if you ended up liking it!

The play mechanics of Mass Effect are the reason I never really hopped on board that particular BioWare train...it's good to know that they've rectified it, but honestly, I'll just stay with Dragon Age. :D

See, I thought Dragon Age's combat system was garbage.

Author:  Raltar [ Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:13 pm ]
Post subject:

I like all three combat systems, but for different reasons. I will say that the combat was the the part I liked the least about Mass Effect, but I still enjoyed it. It just got a hell of a lot better in Mass Effect 2.

As to always being human, that makes me kinda sad. But at the same time, I kinda like having a character that will be called by his name. They got around it in the first one well enough by just calling him "The Warden." But yeah. At least it wasn't as bad as trying to avoid calling Tidus something in Final Fantasy X and X-2.

Where does it say that you've no choice of race? I see the "Hawke" thing, but nothing about human-only.
