I know it's been a long wait, but I can't be the only one (well other than my brother) to rush out and pick up this RPG gem.

The class & create your own party system from Classic 3 is back. You can also change classes as the storyline progresses and there are more unlock-able classes this time around. Multi-player (Multiple cartridge Local Area only) is available also, allowing you to invite friends (in lieu of your "expendable" party members) or visit a friend's world.

The main storyline appears pretty robust so far, and there is lots of other stuff to do: Alchemy, side quests, treasure maps, and achievements.

It's a must for fans of the series, and highly recommended for any DS owner looking for a fun, content filled rpg.

Never played any Dragon Warrior games, though I certainly knew about them since the NES days. They any good?

I do know the band Dragonforce are fans, as their band name was originally Dragon Warrior but they were forced to change it.

Dragon Quest is a hardcore traditional rpg. Where Final Fantasies strive to change with every title, DQ pushes to keep as much the same as they can. If you are lookin for a well-playing, traditional rpg, DQ is your series.

I'll be getting this soon.

From a gameplay standpoint, I loved DQ8. From a story standpoint, I **** hated it super hardcore. It was way too Japanese for me to enjoy, with them cracking stupid **** jokes all the time and the generic bosses being completely and utterly retarded. I'm also not a fan of the character design, but I can look past that, especially when the environment was so beautiful. But when the game doesn't take its self seriously is when I don't play the game anymore. Also, I hated the voice acting.

All that said, if I still had a DS, I would probably at least give this one a try, because while I hated most aspects of 8, I really enjoyed the combat.

The combat system is expanded from 8 with the additions of a class system and class abilities to the weapon skill abilities.
Numb, I'd seriously recommend getting on board with the series. They are stand alones like the FF series, but the game play has a simplicity and unity that is unmatched by any other series. 4,5 have been redone and ported to the DS, and if you can play PS2 games in any manner, 8 is available as well.

Also my brother clocked his first run through at 60 hours, with "still plenty of stuff to do" He also told me that if you do the Internet update (you have to be that far in the game) today, Tsarina Alana from DQ4 shows up and has a special female armor for your party, which of course is similar to hers in appearance.

Also anyone looking into the game in the near future might want to get theirs before the 31st as gamestop will be sponsoring a "tag mode" event. You could pick it up the day of the event, but you have to be a little ways into the game to do tag mode. Details

Annoyingly, I can't do the "DLC" stuff for it because you have to set your wireless security to WEP and I'm not interested in doing that just for a DS game :)

I love the Dragon Quest games, argueably more than Final Fantasy, but I really wish they put it on a real console (like all the other DQ games) and not the DS, I just can't fathom playing thru 60+ hours on a tiny DS screen, especially given the DS's completely un-ergonomical design that gives me hand cramps within 30 mins of playing on it :/
