I need a game. Single player, something to do while I have an hour to kill here or there. I'd prefer it if it was on Steam so I can download it. Those two came to mind. Any recommendations on which one? Both? Neither? |

I like both of those games. You could consider Torchlight, which you'll find on Steam. It's good for short bursts of play like that. |

ME2. Dragon Age is more difficult and I don't think it lends as well to shorter sessions. |

Is Dragon Age similar in play to Baldurs Gate II? I'll have some longer session in there but a lot of times it's only an hour or two. |

Kinda similar, yeah. But the action is faster and unforgiving. You'll constantly need to pause the game and evaluate the battle field. |

Just like the fast paced battles of Baldur's Gate 2. If anything, you pause your game less than playing BG2 because casters are much smarter about casting their spells. |

Yeah. You can get the Baldur's Gate view in the PC version only. Plus, there are a bunch of super sweet mods for the game only available on the PC because the console versions are so very inferior. |

Meh. Torchlight is just an exact clone of Diablo 2. I'd call the designers copycats, except they're copying themselves because they wrote Diablo 2 then left Blizzard. The Diablo series was shallow and unimaginative, Torchlight doesn't change that. DA and ME2 are both incredible choices. I want to say DA has a better story, but then I think back to ME2 and have to say that's wrong. I can't rate one over the other. They are the two best story-driven games made in the last 6 years. So choosing between them boils down to the following: (1) Do you prefer action or rpgs? Both games being equal from a storyline perspective, ME2 is just an excellent third person shooter where your choices matter. Dragon Age is a traditional RPG. Combat has both strategic and tactical elements, but no reflexes or hand-eye coordination required. Both are exceptional games. What style do you prefer? (2) Do you prefer sci-fi or fantasy? ('nuff said.) (3) Most importantly, have you played ME1? IF you're planning on getting this for console, do you still have your ME1 save games? If playing for PC, you can download saved games with just about any combination of ME1 choices you can think of from http://www.masseffectsaves.com which somewhat mitigates no longer having a savegame file from the first one. But you will want to refresh your memory on the events of ME1 and use a savegame file you approve of. ME2 is very much a sequel, and the choices you made in ME1 do factor in to what you do in the second game. If you never played ME1, don't even bother. If you have been dying to see more of the story since finishing ME1, don't hesitate, this game won't disappoint. Dragon age stands alone (but get ALL the DLC for it. And play Leliana's Song first.) The Awakenings expansion is utterly worthless, but the basic game is incredible. Both games are great with heavy replayability (in fact, if you don't play Dragon Age through at least 6 times, you've not gotten the entire story). I dl'd ME2's demo, very cool. As I played it though I did remember SC2 is literally days away so Im gonna wait on that I suppose. I have to remember to get both Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 though, I always let them slip my mind. |

The thing that edges out ME2 for me - and mind you, only by a little - is the way combat plays out. I found that in DA I eventually figured out the moves to make combat more or less a non challenge, but in ME2 it was always exciting. That could relate to my choices, however. I played a soldier in ME2 and a rogue in DA. The thing about DA is that the story is very gripping emotionally, if you get into the characters and the romantic subplots. The origin stories for each of the character selections are also terribly compelling. I dunno - do you want a more FPS experience or a traditional hack and slash? they both deliver. |

Having played the ME2 demo that's the one I'm gonna try first, but I'll buy it after I've tried SC2. Speaking of which, I've pre-downloaded it. I can play... tomorrow I guess. |
