Just in case you missed it, BioShock Infinite is being developed by Ken Levine, creator of the original BioShock. |

There's a new Exclusive Gameplay Feature up on Inside Xbox (on the dashboard) today, I couldn't find a copy on the net. It is pretty incredible, and actually has quite a bit of length. Definitely looking forward to this one now! |

I wasn't sure what trailer I was originally watching, but the second I heard Stephen Russell start talking (aka Garrett from the Thief series) I was 100% sold. |

I see that everyone else is a giant fan of Stephen Russell too. That is good! Edit: Oh, and you can watch that in HD glory on XB Live. |

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-23-bioshock-infinite-interview Quote: Eurogamer: It seems like a dramatic departure. I wonder why it even has BioShock in the title.
Shaun Robertson: BioShock to us has always been more than the city of Rapture. When we sat down and we were thinking about what is BioShock? Is it Rapture? No-one felt BioShock was Rapture. BioShock is more than that. Then what is it? Our core values for BioShock are making a fantastic place that's immersive, the player wants to visit and wants to be in and wants to explore, and take their time to explore. Even if there's no AIs and there's no external story, you would still understand elements of that city and why it was there because the environment is rich enough that you could pull a story from it at your own pace. The other element is providing the player with a wide enough variety of tools and problems that they can use their imagination and the tool set in how they want solve these problems. Eurogamer: That explains the BioShock part. What about the Infinite part? Shaun Robertson: We couldn't call this BioShock 3 because it doesn't have anything... Or does it? Anything to do with 1 and 2. Like I said, BioShock is bigger than Rapture. Calling it 3 would just imply it's either a straight-up sequel or prequel to BioShock 1 and 2, which it's not. We will reveal more in the future about the actual relationship, if there is one, between the other BioShocks. It's one of those things where ultimately the idea of BioShock transcends Rapture. |

Personally, I see this game as the only logical direction for true artists. There's only so much you can do with Rapture. It's time to move on. That, and they needed to get Stephen Russell as the voice of their main character which you just can't do as a big daddy. |

Bioshock 2 was pushing it with Rapture. I love Rapture and I even loved Bioshock 2, but I really agree that there is only so much you can do there. Especially after 2 games already. Regardless of that, I am slightly annoyed that they went backwards in time. I've always hated the idea of prequels, even if it isn't exactly a prequel. |

It's nothing like a prequel. It's set in an entirely different world isn't it? So I wouldn't call it going back in time. It's a different game with a different and also completely awesome setting. That'd be like complaining that Bioshock went back in time from Systemshock. |

If anything, I think they're ruining a potentially good setting by trying to stick hard to their Bioshock formula. I saw the guy drink the potion and get a "look, my left hand now has superpowers!" weapon and there was an instant frown of distaste on my mouth. I mean, it was novel for Bioshock (well, sort of -- a couple games had gone a similar route before, but didn't achieve widespread popularity) because the whole plasmid mutation thing fit the post-war nuclear hype themes of the setting. I suppose the whole potion thing might be trying to play off of snake oil remedies/miracle elixirs and such, which would be temporally appropriate, but is really stretching credibility and seems to be needlessly aping their past successful idea. I mean, you've gone to the trouble of creating a vaguely steampunk airship vibe, if you want to do the whole upgradeable human thing again, why not do it with steam/Tesla-powered prostheses? |

Tycho, Penny Arcade wrote: I have probably seen the Bioshock Infinite trailer ten times already, and I may not be done watching it. Things I thought were the work of an errant codec the first few times... weren't. I wonder what else I'm missing.
Conversation about its status as a "rail shooter" or whether or not the piece actually represents gameplay abounds, but virtually from the first moment of the video it begins kicking you in the **** teeth, just kicking you, over and over. On more than one occasion I thought, do these people know what they're doing? They have to know, because they're Irrational Games; but locking horns with concepts like racism and nativism and the deification of our founders simply isn't done on this tier of the industry. San Andreas shocked the nation because it allowed two consenting polygons to "have sex," or some facsimile thereof, but I strongly suspect that when a game dares to engage with our actual nation, it'll be crickets from hell to breakfast. |

I read a few months ago that Stephen Russell won't be doing the main voice anymore. He was replaced. That action alone takes this game down several notches for me. It was nice hearing his voice littered throughout Skyrim. But I was hoping to hear Garrett as a main man again. |

/necro Game has been leaked a week early. I played for about an hour last night and I gave up after realizing that I had absolutely zero interest in the story. You are given ZERO back story at the beginning, no motivation to play the character you're playing, and no idea why you're in the place you're in. The mechanics work fine, the game is gorgeous, but I just didn't give one **** at all about what I was playing. I'll keep going, hoping that this is some extended tutorial sequence, but right now it's hard to get motivated. Edit - I guess I was wrong about the backstory, but I must have missed it. You're a ex-convict that someone hires to do a job after which you will be freed. Edit 2 - Gave it a few more hours and the game has grown on me, regardless of my complaints in the beginning. Powers are fun, sidekick is useful, combat difficulty is good. |
