So, Ive become rather bored with WoW, and in my desire to goof around gaming before classes start, I downloaded Leliana's Song and the new Golem adventure for Dragon Age. The golem adventure was fun and a bit challenging, but Lelliana's Song is truly a great story. I highly recommend it. I also went out and grabbed the new DLC for ME2, and was equally impressed. While I could do without the hovercraft sequences, the rest of it was a lot of fun.

If it didn't come with your copy of Dragon Age: Origins, make sure to get The Stone Prisoner. It introduces Shale, a team member. Warden's Keep and Return to Ostagar are also good for adding to and deepening the main story.

Darkspawn Chronicles wasn't all that good, except for the great sword it gives you in the main campaign after you have finished it, but the rest of the DLC was awesome.

I haven't bothered with Darkspawn.

Still a level cap, right? Or did they increase it with the DLC?

The crappy expansion (Awakening) increases it.

No - you should get it for the PC. The mods for this game are awesome. Especially the different textures/models for Morrigan and Leliana.

THIS. Seriously.

Why would you want a plain Morrigan that looks like this:

When you can have one that looks like this:

and this (spoilered for size):

I would need to buy a new PC for that and sadly that is not in the budget for several years.

Eh, regular Morrigan, please.

Morrigan is the single most compelling female character in a video game *ever*.

Except not. She is a *****. That complains no matter what you do. Help the villages? "We are wasting our time!" Don't help the people getting attacked by Darkspawn? "We are giving up potential allies!" The ***** was retarded, plain and simple. She kept wanting to do things that would be detrimental to the success of defeating the Darkspawn. Not to mention she was **** evil as all hell. And selfish. She doesn't care about anyone but her self. The whole romance with her is one giant manipulation. She doesn't care for your character and if you think she does, you just got duped. All she wants is the unholy god child so she can take over the world later. It makes me so angry she will be showing up in Dragon Age 2. I only hope Hawke has a chance to do what the warden should have done to begin with: slit that *****'s throat.

I think, maybe the fact that you react so strongly to the character just reinforces Monte's point. Love her or Hate her, she definitely leaves an impact on the player.

That's true. I will give you that.

She's the most believable of the characters, to be honest. She is what she is, the whole way through the game. She can become genuinely fond of your character, even with her cunning plan. She's awesome.

I tried to play through with a male character that went after Lelianna, but I just couldn't do it. Morrigan was much more fun.

No she can't. If you believed this, then she got you. She doesn't care about anything but her self. Period.

That's what's so compelling about the character. There is no power of love melting her icy cold heart and reforming her. The magic dick doesn't turn her into a "good guy." (Or gal, in this case). There isn't some sensitive girl hiding inside that rough outer shell, waiting and longing for someone to love her. She really is the Queen of Air and Darkness.

None of those qualities are what I would call compelling. Those are all things that I would try to kill.

edit:

Also, I don't want a character I can turn to the light side. I want a character who is already on the light side. Which is why Leliana is so much better. Hey, look at that. A character that actually likes me and isn't scheming. She also doesn't advise me to do things that will certainly make me lose.

Actually, if you have your faction maxed to her, and you sleep with her, you get to play the hilarious game of watching her try her damndest to not get too close to you. Eventually, there is a conversation where she tells you, point blank, that she's fond of you (and I believe it happens after you decide on her final move).

You can make her genuinely care about you, it's just not enough to get her to not go through with her cunning plan. By the way, when you do that plan right, it saves your life (assuming you're male and decide to be the one who "takes one for the team"). I imagine that a small part of her motive to go to you first is a hidden desire to make sure you survive.

Edit - I might have to replay it. I know that she gave me a ring, and I am fairly certain that my end montage said I had the sense that she missed me, or something to that effect. You actually have to lose points to her to open this aspect of development up, by saying that you could love her. She get's all stand offish, but she's a sucker for gold necklaces.

See, you might think that she actually cares about you, but she doesn't actually care about you. It isn't in her nature to care about anything but her self. You are being tricked into thinking she actually cares for you. She doesn't.

Just talk to her, maybe she's someone you'd like to kill.

Being on your hit list doesn't disqualify someone from being a compelling character. Wanting to kill her is a perfectly reasonable response. Morrigan really is Flemeth's daughter, regardless of how much doubt they try to cast on that during the game. She'll probably end up as a villain in a later installment, and people will eat it up.

That's just not supported by the dialogue. She does eventually come to love you, if you play your cards right. You have to read between the lines, but there is a point in the story where Morrigan switches over from using you to genuinely caring about you. It's confusing for her. There's really nothing supporting your position that she's not sincere about her feelings. If Morrigan is anything, it's bluntly and brutally honest about her point of view.
