My wife got me a Wii for my birthday, yesterday. So far, I've got the included Wii Sports, along with Wii Sports Resort, and Mario Kart. My 2 girls (8 and 5) and I are really having a blast with the games, so far.

But I was wondering which games do you guys think are "must haves" for the Wii. I'd like to get a couple of games for myself, and also a few more that me and the girls can enjoy together. Are the classics, like Zelda and Metroid, worth picking up? Also, is the Wii Fit board something I should look into, or should I skip it?

So, what do you guys suggest?

Zelda is definitely good. Mario Galaxy is also quite fun. Mario Kart is also a blast. I've always been a fan of Super Smash Bros., so that was a must have.

Never tried metroid for the wii but I hear it's fun.

I enjoyed Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. If you like the on rails lightgun shooters, it's pretty solid with lots of extras to unlock. I'd also suggest Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn if you like turn based RPG strategy games.

I personally didn't like Metroid Prime 3, but the new Metroid that is in the works is certainly something to look forward to.

A good game for everyone is Boom Blox, my wife got this for her sister's family last year, and they all played it together.

Beyond that, box it up, trade it in towards a 360 elite, and profit? :)

Must haves:
Mario Galaxy
Twilight Princess
Boom Blox Bash Party - This is probably the most fun party game on the Wii. (but I haven't played Sports Resort yet). Everyone that has played it with us has loved it.

I also picked up Raving Rabbids (haven't tried the later ones, but I hear they're all fun), and it's pretty good too.

I also hear Smash Bros. and Mario Kart are great. :)

My opinion: There's no such thing as a must-have Wii game.

Sure there is. It's a PS3 or a 360!

Yeah, I guess I should amend my post to put the emphasis on the word enjoyed. None of the games I said are must haves. The Wii is easily passed on unless you are really into the party games. The new Metroid might change that, though...because it looks that awesome. A new good Zelda along Twilight Princess' lines would be nice as well.

The Wii also has some advantages due to the kids, guys. A lot more of the fun titles have broader (age and gender) appeal and are kid-friendly.

Mario Galaxy, Smash Brothers, and perhaps even Zelda would fall into that broad appeal category. Zelda and Metroid are both worth the pick-up for you, Caleria. Super Paper Mario might be of interest, it's a fun game but the cutscenes annoy me. It and Mario Galaxy are probably good gateway games to more traditional things for party-game lovers.

Muramasa - it's by far the most beautiful game on the Wii and pretty fun.

Zelda
Zack & Wiki
Mario Kart / Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World

That's a list of my top-played games, according to the Nintendo Channel on my Wii.

Edit - Although, Muramasa will be toward the top of that list soon. I've been hooked.

Resident Evil 4, it never gets old for me.

Thanks, guys. I was already wanting to get Zelda, so I'm glad you guys said it's worth getting. That will probably be my next purchase.

And for the kids, perhaps Mario Galaxy would be a good one to start with. They really like Mario Kart, but it's a tad too difficult, especially for the younger one, so I usually wind up racing for them and letting them watch. They tend to over-steer a lot. But they love to watch the character's and the animations.

But I'm wondering if I should look at a Star Wars game, because the oldest is having a great time with the sword fighting in Wii Sports Resort. That's by far her favorite thing to play, right now. And they both love Star Wars (they make me so proud), so the thought of them whacking each other around with a lightsaber is appealing. But I don't think there are any that give you that much control over the saber, are there? Most of them are just the "flick" type control, right?

And yes, I have a 360 already, but it's mainly for the types of titles that I want to play. I don't have many games that the whole family can enjoy, besides Rock Band 1 & 2.

My son likes the Force Unleashed on Wii for some reason. I don't know much about it though. He said it has a duel mode, I am clueless.

If you're wanting a sword fighting game that involves lightsabers, force unleashed isn't what you're looking for. More likely it's this. I haven't tried it, but for kids and kids-at-heart it looks perfect.

Funny you should mention that, Numbuk. I orderd that and Zelda from Amazon last night. I figured it was worth a shot at $20. We enjoy the Clone Wars TV series, so they should enjoy this.

I already have Force Unleashed for the 360, so I wasn't really planning on getting it for the Wii, unless duel mode was really, really good. But I haven't heard a whole lot about it.

I enjoyed LoZ: Twilight Princess greatly. I always had a love the the Zelda games, and this one does not fail to impress. Good long play too. First time through (Without assistance) was pushing 50+ hours and I was only about 3/4 of the way.

I did not like Super Paper Mario and I also thought SSBB was not much different than SSBM (Gamecube) which I have long since grown tired of.

I enjoyed Force Unleashed for the flick controls. Made me really feel like I was using the force.

Other than that, I can't really think of many other "must haves" for the Wii. I wanted to play Metroid, but it made me physically ill. (motion sickness) I should have tweaked the sensitivity a bit, though.

My Xbox360 gets much more playtime now than the Wii.

I seem to have gotten the wrong thing. I saw Boom Blox in a clearance bin at Target and remembered the title (at least Boom Blox title) so grabbed it. So far it's pretty "meh" but all I have unlocked is the starting shooting part and the first level or two of Jenga. I really hope it gets better, anyone have hints or comments?

Metroid Prime now comes in trilogy format, as seen here. $50 for 3 games isn't shabby at all.

I don't know if RPGs are of interest to you, but Little King's Story is a fairly recent release that I have heard good things about. It's a hard game, however, so I don't know if it would be well-received by people who are looking for some light entertainment. If that's not a dealbreaker, though, it's a cool game. Definitely not just_another_RPG8324. It's actually game #1 on my list to buy if my life ever gets sorted out.

There's also Lego Batman, and Lego Indiana Jones. I think there's some other Lego (Insert Franchise) in the works, as well as a straight up Lego game coming.
