Is playable at PAX right now, and is getting released for 360/ps3/pc in 2011.

Wow.

Yeah, apparently Gearbox (the guys who did Borderlands) bought the game when what's their names went under. According to rumor, the game is basically done, and the only reason it's not really coming out soon is because the guys at Gearbox need a little time to go through the code and such to figure out everything and fix a few more remaining issues.

The playable demo at PAX is apparently the intro and part of the 15th level. There's some pics up at Kotaku as well, it actually looks really nice.

It better be fan-damn-tastic.
Otherwise, fans will wish it had stayed vaporware forever. At least that way, they could cling to the dream that it would have been the best thing evar if it had actually come to life.

I think this was a mistake on Gearbox's part. No matter how good the game is, it will always have the stigma of being Duke Nukem Forever.

Then again, Prey was in development for a long *** time and it ended up being pretty awesome.

I disagree, with as much work was put into it over all that time, it would be a shame for it to never see the light of day. Also, I have confidence in gearbox.

I still snicker knowing the fact that a friend of mine has a pre-order slip from 1999 from Electronics Boutique (or some store of the same nature, the name may have been different) for this game...

Babbages?

Babbage's is where I worked for nearly 5 years. Even though it got bought out by GameStop in the early 2000s, we never changed our sign, and even had the plaque describing the life of Charles Babbage until our remodel about a year before I parted ways with the company.

Anyway, on topic:

It's been so long since I played a Duke Nuke'Em that I've pretty much lost interest in the series all together. Be interesting to see how this one turns out.

If it was, I would go to Gamestop (who bought out Babbages) and make them honor it! But I wouldn't let them keep that receipt. That thing needs to be framed.

A much more detailed story about Duke's Resurrection.

I'll buy it. I owe Duke that much. Even though I was never as big a fan of D3D as I was of Quake, but the shrink ray was certainly fun in multiplayer. That and I've been a part of the DNF thing since day 1. Names like "George Broussard" really take me back to a time when I was reading .plan files from id Software, Raven, 3D Realms, Ion Storm, etc.

Now.... if they release a Shadow Warrior Forever... I will be crazy amounts of happy.

I used to spend sooooo much time on the Duke 3d map editor. It was so easy to use. I miss games coming packaged with those.

If DNF can see the light of day, maybe Starcraft Ghost can be revived as well?

I assume Duke used a "sector based" system much like DooM? As in, it wasn't true 3D, you were basically defining floor/ceiling heights for different sectors?

Man, I too miss editing maps for those games.

Exactly right. This made it so much easier (though discernably less versatile) than other systems.

Half-life's editor was "fair" to use, taking much longer but having significantly greater versatility.

Ah Hopin. His voice and dialogue was one of the biggest reasons I liked that game over Duke.

My absolute favorite soundclip was "Burn, baby Burn! Flames get higher!" Though to say it the way Lo Wang says it, "Bon, baby bon! Frames a git-a hiyah!"

Other favorites include:

"You half a man you used to be!" (after slicing them up with your sword)
"Everybody dead. I like that!"

And I love his take on "Shuriken" which he can be found here: http://www.3drealms.com/sw/lowang.html

No, Blizz stopped Ghost because they thought it sucked. No one will stop DNF from sucking. I thought about waiting in line at PAX, but I changed my mind. At least we'll stop seeing the same April Fools joke every year.

I feel the need to mention that Blizz has never officially canceled Starcraft: Ghost. If asked about it they will evade the question as much as possible generally.

Yeah, they haven't officially canceled it...but the tombstone in Netherstorm kinda says it all.
