Why is a Japanese beat-em-up named after a Hebrew name for God?

Also, want English translation of that new Deus Ex trailer.

To the Japanese, Judeo-Christian mythology is neat fantasy stuff. Sort of the way we view, say... Beowulf or perhaps King Arthur.

Yeah, but I'd think that if I made a game called Knights of the Round Table, it would contain, you know, some broadswords, horses, and platemail.

I don't recall ever seeing such weapons or landscapes in Judeo-Christian mythology..

Consider that this is a country where video game developers create a game where you summon Odin out of a crack in the sky to cut robots in half.

Secret shakycam footage of FFvsXIII

Looks like combat is Crisis Core/KH style. Also, blood!

I suppose this is true, and I'm just expecting far more sanity and rationality than the Japanese entertainment mindset is accustomed to delivering.

I get a boner every time I see more of Lords of Shadow.

That looks more like it. Again, they have yet to dash my aspirations and hopes for the game against the cold rocks of reality. Doesn't mean it can't happen, just that the teasers are thematically pushing the right buttons for me for a Deus Ex franchise and my lofty cyberpunk sensibilities. Still not sure whether the gameplay will deliver, as the cutscene combat looks too.. scripted? to really be both credible and what I want. I could buy that it's all just pre-rendered garbage to make the teasers look nice, or that it's indicative of gameplay that's not what I want. I'm hoping it's the former.

Were I not in complete agreement I would say... that is kind of creepy.

Gamescom had a gameplay trailer, apparently.

Thanks, Dal. Still, it's hard to say -- I can accept that none of that is pre-rendered for the trailer, but it's still obviously a lot of cutscene editted together with gameplay, and thus I'm not sure *how much* of that is the result of control over the protagonist. Are *only* the FPS perspective shots the result of player direction? I'd be pretty cool with that, though it would make most of the trailer in-game cutscenes. Or can the game be played in the third person, as well, and thus some of the flashy attacks are context-sensitive assassinations or finishing moves? Then I'm still pretty wary, as that leans away from what I love most about Deus Ex, that it fosters creativity rather than running up to the glowing spot on the ground to perform your special "I win" attack and look cool.
