A game that has been talked about recently, at least in the anime circles, is something called Recettear. It's a JRPG with a twist. Instead of being an adventurer, you're an item shop owner.

The basis of the story is that you're a young girl, left alone after her father abandoned her to pursue the life of an adventurer, with nothing but her house and a huge sum. A fairy arrives one day to collect the debt and suggests to the heroine, Recette, that she open an item shop in order to raise the owed money. So Recette and her fairy companion Tear open the shop and deal with buying and selling.

Recette can acquire goods to sell in one of three ways. She can buy from the Market Guild or the Market for base price, she can buy items from people coming in to sell stuff, or she can crawl dungeons. Now, since Recette isn't an adventurer, she relies on an adventuerer companion to actually do all the dirty work in the dungeons. Any loot she finds in a dungeon can be sold for pure profit, but the downside is that she has limited bagspace, and if her adventurer runs out of health, she has to carry him home, leaving no room for loot.

The game is light in tone, with cheery music, cute characters, and funny dialogue. If you like JRPG style adventure games, give it a try. You can get it on Steam for $20, or you can also find it some other places on the web. Steam also has a demo available if you want to try that.
