Not necessarily a bad thing, depending on how it is structured. For example, in lotro (where I have a lifetime sub), I get "free" points monthly, plus all game access and perks that I had before it went f2p. Monthly subscribers that choose to drop to f2p lose access to a good number of zones and would need to purchase them separately (or restart the monthly subscription).

Although I will say, I would have been pissed if it had gone f2p sooner than 20 months out of the gate (which was the subscription break-even point for a lifetime sub). Not sure where that point is for Champions or whether it is past or not.

Champions is, I want to say, roughly 14 months in, I think.

Likely the best way to get me playing again. I can't justify paying for it right now.

But it still may be a while before I begin playing. I.... am playing something else.

I've got one, although I've found that I'm not playing it as much as I thought I would. Unfortunately the realities of balancing a point based game in a MMO environment are too difficult for more dev teams I think. Everything becomes homogenized and boring.

Was always interested in this one but had too many other games to play. F2P has gotten me interested again.

So like are WoW and EQ2 the only MMOs left that have pay-to-play aspects?

I dunno. They still have subscriptions in LotRO and DDO. And there are some things you can't get period unless you have a subscription in LotRO.

Ah ok, I thought LotRO went full F2P, but I guess they pulled an EQ2 and only have dedicated servers that are free.

And wow, people still play DDO? Maybe it's changed since, but what I played in the beta was God-awful.

lotro went full f2p with paid VIP subscriptions (which the lifetime subs count as).

LotRO doesn't have dedicated servers that are pay only. It's just that unless you sub, you don't get access to certain features, like monster play and such. Most features are available for purchase in the store with points, but there are still some that are only accessible if you have a VIP subscription. And DDO is...still pretty terrible. But it's not so much the game as it is the setting.
