Ok....

So somehow, I lost both of my copies of the original D2 game, but I have both of my expansion copies.

Is there going to be any (legit, or at least semi-legit) way for me to play?

I don't quite want to play enough yet to buy another full copy of the game, but it would be nice to dabble occasionally.

Any ideas/suggestions?

I seem to have some vague memory that once you upgraded to the xpac, that was the only CD you ever needed to play....

If you have the CD key for the original, you can go to Blizzard's site, set up an account and put the CD keys in there and get a downloadable copy of the game that doesn't require a CD, just the CD key.

You can do this with Warcraft 3+expansion and Starcraft+expansion as well.

No, sadly- I may have the manual or box around somewhere, but I can't find the CD keys. Guess I'm SoL.

I got my expansion key put in, and that worked, however.

On a related note, anyone have a spare copy of Diablo 2 that they want to swap for a CD key of Diablo 2: LoD? :-D

Still have my 1.0 CD's somewhere at home, but have since moved onto using ISO's. I would reccomend doing the same. (You paid for the game already, right? :P) Much <3 for Diablo II.

He needs the CD key to install it. Like I said before, if you have the CD key, you can get the full version as a download that doesn't require the CD to play from Blizzard. Blizzard has made all of their Battle.net games no longer require CDs to play.

I'm more likely to find my CDs than my CD key, at this point.

AT the risk of sounding horribly naive, what the frick is an ISO?

ISOs are CD image files you can mount on virtual CD drives.

And if you can't find the CD key, the only way is to pirate a key or buy a new one.

Ok, thanks for the advice. Guess I'll buy a new one eventually.

Well, the battle chest is pretty cheap. Doubt you'll be able to find just Diablo 2 without the expansion included.

EDIT:

Upon further investigation, I was wrong. Battlechest still goes for $39.99, but you can get a digital download copy of the original from the Blizzard store for $19.99.

I think there's sites where you can buy cd keys, but I don't know how safe the websites are.

Yeah, spending $9 for a CD key that is suspect vs. $20 for one that I know is legit... I'll buy it from the Blizzard store, when I do.
