The recent boom of fighting games, thanks in no small part to the success of "Street Fighter 4," has led to some pretty intense bouts. But in an age where online gaming is the primary source for multiplayer, problems often arise. Take, for example, the rage quitter, who decides to yank his or her ethernet cord the second they think they're going to lose the match. It's sadly a common occurrence in online fighting games, but for "Marvel vs. Capcom 3," Capcom has come up with a clever way to combat those impatient, tempestuous souls.

Here's how they plan on stemming the tide: Let's say you're a rage quitter. Any time you take one too many hydukens to the face, you yank the cord. Being selfish and stupid, you probably don't realize that most games track that as an instant loss for you and an instant win for the other player. But even though the other player is getting the win, that doesn't make the experience all that much fun.

So how do you stop normal players from having to deal with rage quitters? Simple! Just match people who quit early regularly with other people who quit early regularly. Suddenly you have an entire community of annoying, selfish players locked in a bubble, just playing with other annoying, selfish players.

On the back-end, "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" will silently keep track of how often you quit a match early. Just doing it once every week or so probably won't stick you in the horrible rage-quitting queue, but do it on a regular basis and you can consider yourself excommunicated. A devious solution to an ever-present problem. Here's hoping it works as well as it sounds on paper.

If this actually works, maybe it'll find it's way into other games with "griefers/exploiters/etc". Make them play with their own annoying kind!

I'm trying to imagine a WoW server populated with a) people who drop BGs when it looks like their team is gonna lose and b) people who drop out of heroics/raids after the first bad pull.

Hope they enjoy the world they make for themselves.

Haha oh man, wouldn't that be amazing? Unfortunately, every other server would be completely barren, and there would be "the under-sewer" that always had a 4 hour queue.

Still, what a wonderful empty world to play in.

LOL! This article really cracked me up. My brother and I constantly talk about leavers in Civ 5. We made up a term called "score victory" for when people quit the match because your score is higher than theirs.

That's an awesome idea.

Love this idea.

Makes me reminisce for the arcade days. Nowhere you could go, no plugs to pull, no way to get your quarter back when you were standing side-by-side with the person who was currently kicking your *** on Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, or (insert fighting game of choice here)

Those were the days. Get your *** kicked then turn away to face the line of people waiting to take their turn to take that person off the machine. Oh and don't forget to get out your next quarter and put it up for your next chance.

Good times.

I love that technology is becoming able to track and deal with asshattery.

The only sour memory I have regarding arcade Street Fighter is the "Cheese Champions". It's one thing to acknowledge the superior skill of someone who survives the attempts of several challengers to unseat him/her, but when that person is basically backing you into a corner and stun-locking you with the fastest attacks available, there's just no respect.

I was playing SF with a friend of mine at an arcade, and the guy that worked there butted-in between rounds. He obviously played it a lot, he gave me a sound thrashing. It was like Tyson fighting Dustin Diamond. And he even barely paid attention, he was just hitting buttons to finish me off while he was half-stepped away from the machine talking to his friend. He did this more than once to us.

I can understand a local kid doing this, but a guy who's job it is to make sure the patrons are having a good time?

I said "**** that arcade" and never went back. I have always spoken with my business (or loss thereof) at varying businesses since.
