So I have a 20% coupon I have to use tomorrow. I want to get an RPG and I'm thinking Star Ocean is the money. Anybody play this and enjoy it? After looking over Infinite Undescovery, I decided I'd wait a bit longer until it's cheaper. If anybody knows any other RPGs (besides Tales of Vesperia) that are really good though, lemme know. |

I would recommend Lost Odyssey as the best (J)RPG on the 360 currently. I seem to recall people saying Star Ocean wasn't that great. |

I don't recall load times being bad. I just remember it being a really awesome game. |

Mind telling me more 'bout what you liked and disliked? I just read a couple reviews and saw footage and such. Looks like the story is excellent but combat is boring, which, is the opposite of what I'm reading about Star Ocean. |

The story was very good. There are certain memories you get back as you progress through the game that run the whole range of emotions(I cried a little with some of them, others I felt warm and fuzzy on the inside). Graphics are very solid, the way the immortal characters learn skills is pretty cool as well. Combat is pretty generic turn based RPG with a perfect trigger to do extra damage and sometimes add status effects. Challenge was pretty moderate. Not nearly as exciting as Vesperia's combat, though. Story is above and beyond, though. I was pretty annoyed with the two child characters you get, but they really weren't any worse than Karol personality wise(though, useful wise...well, the immortal characters outclass the non-immortal characters pretty hard core, but they do serve a purpose because you don't get all of the immortals right away, plus they will teach your immortals skills). But you have to realize that I can play through utterly boring mechanical games as long as the story is good. Story is the most important part of a game for me. |

Star Ocean 4 is one of the most mediocre RPGs there is. The emo-moments are god awful, the child characters are the worst ones ever in an RPG, and there's no freaking target switching in combat. Also - the disc swapping is pretty much the most infuriating thing ever. If you ever want to go back to planets you have to swap discs. It's terrible bullshit and killed any desire I had to do any post-game extra ****. Do not touch this game unless you are out of RPGs to play. Lost Odyssey and Magnacarta 2 (just came out) are leagues better on all levels. |

Hmmm, okay. Sean - you know if there is still disc swapping if you install to the HD? Edit: NM. Just saw on gamefaqs that it doesn't help that. Okay, Lost Odyssey it is - if I can find it. Thanks y'all. |

Sean, if I hated the first Magna Carta, how much would I like the second one? |

Yes, it was out after HD installs went in - you still have to swap even with it installed to the HDD. And it's not just an occasional swap - some of the post game stuff you have to continually swap back and forth. It's compeltely asinine. Raltar - I never played Magnacarta 1. It looked and was by all accounts completely awful. Magnacarta 2 however is pretty good. It's a beautiful game and the combat is absolutely fantastic. The upgrade system is very addictive once it unlocks for you too (think WoW talent trees + sockets, but you don't destroy gems when you swap them). The story is pretty predictable, but what RPG isn't these days. The voice acting is good, though one character starts off a bit annoying when you first get her - it's fitting though (plus her pitch gets better as the game goes). Also, there's no annoying child characters, only hot chicks. Hottest cast ever - thank you Korea! |

Well, my coupon was expiring today. I got down to the Gamestop and ended up getting Star Ocean. The cheapskate in me won this round. When I saw that I was going to get 30% off I figured I'd get the more expensive game to save more money. Yeah... I'm a d-bag. |
