Does overrated mean not good? Either way, I don't think it sucked.

I wonder how all those classic games feel about being part of a design that exemplifies the douchery that is the modern age game hero.

I don't know that Cloud is "modern" anymore.

He's the poster boy for the "Modern Gaming Era": A school of video game design thought that relies on graphic processing power and CGI cut scenes over story and game play.

By this logic, Super Mario 64 should also be considered modern, because it is the poster child and progenitor of all analog stick movement-based games.

FFVII is over a decade old and it's story wasn't that bad, but it's a Japanese game as well, so it has it's own quirks.

Games were trying to include more cutscenes for a while. The Sega CD had a bunch of FMV games. For a while developers were trying to use it help tell their story, but the FMV **** was mostly terrible. I'm pretty sure it seemed neat to me when I was a kid, but looking back I realize how awful some of that **** was.

Just because he's got a huge-ass sword doesn't mean he's Cloud. I don't remember Cloud having a gun in his off-hand. I don't think he's shooting for any particular character, so much, as he's just showing what he could create using all the old games/accessories.

I tried playing FFVII soon after it came out, and never really liked it. It seemed like Pokemon. I don't get why people reference it so much.
