I had heard this bandied about in TOR beta as "Games that are coming out" like GW2 and Tera and TSW. Well, from my PoV... this actually looks pretty damn good. A modern day, 3 faction MMO set in a world where everything is true. Lovecraftian Horrors, ghost ships, Illuminati, Templars... No leveling, no classes, no talent spec trees that are quite linear and boring. 500 different skills that can be mixed and matched to suit your own playstyle. Combat missions, and "investigation" missions that are more for thinkin people. Puzzles and clues and whatnot. I quite like the idea of this and am looking forward to April. Watch it flop |

No leveling and no classes are kind of a deal breaker for me. What's the point in an MMO? |

Raltar wrote: No leveling and no classes are kind of a deal breaker for me. What's the point in an MMO? Well, there's leveling after a fashion. You kill things, get XP, and those give you points. You then spend those points on abilities. So think of it as a 500 level talent tree game or something like that. |

I've had my eye on this one for a while now. I'll likely give it a whirl once it releases. I like the sound of the ability decks or w/e and the modern, Earthly setting. |

Reminds me of SWG before the FPS patch. I'll keep my eye out, but my wallet will continue to hide in the corner, covering its ears and shouting, "La la la la la! I can't hear you!" |

I'm not very stoked about the character design quality but I do like the lore / skill stuff. Hope they offer a free trial. |

Its still Beta-ish. The animations look better than they did in the last video I saw. Its not out till April, so they have a few months still to polish. Its run off the AoC engine, so I would expect characters to look like that engine. |

I haven't read any of the stuff here, but I'm liking the atmosphere and feel. |

It's based largely on Anarchy Online's character progression models. |

It will be a niche market game; it will go free-to-play within 90 days. |

I'd believe it, Khross. That might be because someone compared it to Anarchy Online, though. Blech, hated that game's progression. Also because it looks like something that one couldn't invest oneself in, IMO. The fact that it just sort of mish mashes all of the Cthulu-Illuminati-stuff-going-on-in-secret stuff, combined with what I feel to be "bleh" art style kind made it seem half-assed to me. Am I the only one getting that vibe? |

Anarchy Online is a far better game than most people give it credit for being, but Funcom has issues with ... internal size. In any case, AO's progression is different and always has been. |

Khross wrote: It will be a niche market game; it will go free-to-play within 90 days. Definitely, yes. Edit: Hell, 90 days? I figured they'll launch F2P. |

Maybe after a year, 90 days is a bit harsh. |

It's not a knock. Going F2P is a very profitable endeavor (just ask DC Universe Online, for one of many). But this is such a niche market game that there's no way it'll stand alone for long, if at all. |

VERY interested. And I loved AO. They were the first mainstream MMORPG to implement a "talent" system, first one with instanced dungeons / bosses, item quality levels, item enhancements, mounts... Plus they allowed for a much bigger difference in potential between skilled/experienced players vs non-skilled, instead of just geared vs non-geared. |

So, apparently it's out now. Anyone playing? Also, any way to do a free trial? |

I hear the quests are hard to follow and require some thought / attention to detail so the WOW crowd probably wont jump on this bandwagon. Have the graphics (animations mostly) been improved at all? They're my biggest turn-off. |

My wife enjoys it immensely. I still have yet to try it. And I was even in two beta weekends (just felt like playing other things). |

I am playing it. I enjoy the quests that make you do at least a little thinking and research to complete. As for the graphics and animations, while they have improved since I first entered beta, they seem to be dated and lacking for my taste, but not inexcusably so. To me, this game is all about the quests and puzzles. Next would would come the atmosphere & environment. Combat is last. I like the ability wheel and deck building concept, but the combat itself is merely okay. Once the quests and exploring dries up, I'll probably un-sub. PvP might be fun for a bit but we'll see. A word of warning if you do try it and you are interested in attempting some of the puzzle/investigation quests yourself: there is still a large crowd of folks that want to be spoon-fed quest solutions and people are asking for and in some cases receiving spoilers in chat all the time; mostly in General chat but also in Help. Often, I am switched to a custom chat tab that does not include these channels. Anyhow, I'm on Cerberus dimension: Ulf (dragon), A-Zar (illuminati) or Zari (templar) if anyone wants to look me up. |
