I wanted to say that it meets Deus Ex, but that would only be on the dystopian-future-with-human-augmentation level.

Anyhoo, I played the demo with Dal and another friend today, and I must say, it's a lot of fun. The cooperative mode is basically a mission wherein you and three allies work toward an objective. Think Left 4 Dead in terms of co-op, but Modern Warfare 2 SpecOps in terms of gameplay, with some special powers thrown in. Though we were a team of 3, it seems the missions do not scale with the number of people. 3 on normal difficulty still managed to be challenging without being too hard. We had fun. The powers make for interesting gameplay, though the DART overlay can be a bit of a crutch.

Example: Friend was down, and Dal was helping him up. I activate my DART overlay and see (through a wall) an enemy creeping up on Dal. I use one of my two Applications (as these special abilities are called) to jam this guy's weapon and cause a fatal backfire. Granted, I may be judging it too early, but it looks like it'll be a lot of fun when it comes out.

Not sure what they'll be offering for single player, but they've at least got me anticipating the co-op.

Here's a vidya:

Brief commentary:

DART tags enemies you've already seen even through walls, and grants a damage and defense bonus.

A group that's quick on the draw with the heal button is nearly invincible. Apparently, most people are idiots that won't use healing or think it's beneath them.

I wound up the healer/defensive guy; my apps were Barrier and Group Heal. Group Heal is particularly handy when I can't see the rest of the group.

I find the scopes on the Kusanagi ACR to be... weird.

I actually wasn't aware this was a reboot until I poked around the tvtropes page for this game. At least now I understand why everything is the way it is. Honestly, if I like it enough once it comes out, I may just want to see what all the fuss is about, since the new game claims there's quite a few levels taken from the original Syndicate.

The original Syndicate was freaking EPIC. However, I don't know that it has dated very well. But in its day... I spent HOURS minigunning people to death when I wasn't using the persuadertron to create mini armies of loyal sheep. ;)
