Basically, everything from 13 that was terrible got fixed. Tons of side quests, open world, multiple endings, monster collection (your third party member), chocobo racing, etc... I bought it yesterday from Amazon for what was effectively $19.99. I had $20 credit, they sell it for $59.99, and I got an extra $20 credit for the purchase :D

My understanding is that you play as Serah, trying to find Lightning. You travel through time. Lightning looks like some kind of demi god now after the trailers but who knows, FF is so over the top. There will be DLC in the near future, each of which will focus on a different character(s), and expand on the ending. Like they did with FF4 and the Lost Chapters on WiiWare.

Will use this thread to talk to myself about impressions etc.

FF 13 was far better than it should have been ...

That said, did the DLC for 13 ever materialize?

I don't believe so. I'm pretty sure any plans for 13's DLC turned into what became 13-2.

I am not a huge fan of the lack of a real third party member. But I still want to play it.

I actually really enjoyed the monster aspect in the demo. Give it a shot.

Well, it's mostly because I wanted more people from FFXIII playable instead. But, like I said...still want to play the game. I really feel FFXIII got a lot of **** that it didn't deserve.

I expect you'll be able to play other characters in the planned DLC

If it's anything like the last game, you want it on PS3 no questions asked. I assume it requires current firmware, though, so I bought it on 360 :(

I thought FF13 did a good job with character development, in that each of the characters had a noticeable impact on one another. I didn't much care for the story or the gameplay

It had some serious issues, but it's not as awful as people say. I enjoyed it for what it was, but I give up on enjoying a new FF as much as FF6 or Chrono Trigger.

I'm having a blast playing this game so far. I LOVE the narrative, the characters aren't disgustingly cliche, and being able to choose where you go is awesome.

I'm not sure how interested I'd be in playing with two of my favorite characters removed from the story.

If anyone is on the fence, get this game. Best FF in a decade, kupo!

You didn't like 12?

I liked 12 a lot, actually, but I rank it lower than 10.

This is better than both.

Well, now I don't know what to believe, because I think 10 is terrible.

Tidus and Yuna's stupid dialogues (like the forced laughing and whistles) were the only real downsides to FFX for me. The battle system was amazing, the monster arena **** rocked, the story was good, character customization was fun still, everyone had their own epic weapon, there were tons of side quests... I could go on.

X gets a lot of **** that it shouldn't. I concur with Lenas' cons. I really enjoyed everything else (but seriously, that's the worst **** laughter in a fictional work since Tom Hulce in Amadeus).
