So going through some old files I found an application a party in a campaign I ran years ago created because we had so many PC's and Players moving in and out.

Application for the party of the Clawed Dragon

Hail and well met, by reading this or having it read to you, you have expressed intrest in joining the Party of the Clawed Dragon. Due to the changes and personal lives and the nature of the quests and adventures we undergo the party of the Clawed Dragon (PoCD) is always keeping an eye out for new members and those seeking more temporary employments.

PoCD is a established adventuring group based out of the city of Brightborne, although we do travel extensivly. We are not an group that practices evil actions or pursues evil goals. That being said we have had members who's personal beliefs are not along the good axis and have worked together wonderfully.

The PoCD personal missions range from simple exepitions for the collection of wealth to world altering expeditions to save kingdoms and more. Our lives have been very fluid and sometimes we must react very rapidly to the changing world. That being said we are always open to new members and experiences. To ease sorting of talents and abilites we have created a application proccess to get a sense of new members.

Ya know Fester Inky would have flayed you alive if he found out you called him Inky on the application.

The full and final poem from the end of the second campaign:

On this day when fortunes told
Are gods of evil and men so bold
The eyes of black where darkness lay
Seeks to unmake both night and day
Hatched from egg that fell from sky
Maddened evil and plans a wry

So goes the king this very penning
On dragons wing with friends defending
Off to follow the fiery trail
Destined to slay two but to no avail
For a kind heart beats within
That will only delay the coming end

Battles rage in heaven’s home
Strange gods knock and claw and moan
Oh the troubles we shall see so soon
The city quakes when the sun is noon
Ground beneath sheds a different hue
A color the faithful, their king, eschew

Holy men harm those they cure
Wizards have troubles ten folds more
The clerics scream of magic taint
The Robes point finger to their saint
Night when the two in conflict are
Dies a Master, rises Burk’s black mar

Arrive many from foreign lands
Powerful relics in their hands
Pulled forth again do heroes rise
To light a sun in southern skies
In the tumult not all do die
Yet all see heaven with an eye

So half a half my age of peace
Sorrows ended, the sweet release
Yet the evil that kindness brought
Captive once, no longer caught
Grows in means by and large
Seeking a start her second charge

A disease within the temples found
Late to cure the hollow faith resounds
Masked by shadow of mortal power
The faith rots slowly on passing hour
Backs of people now face the altar
For wills of the high holy bolster then falter

Secrets revealed too soon for evil’s like
Facing to often the gathering goodly might
Forced too early to walk this mortal land
Hope remains between the grains of sand
Horrors brought by horror’s will
From the black ring to maim and kill

So once again mortal men stand tall
Evil and Right and Between with them all
Combine and plan weak men’s thoughts
Hinder, rebuke, insanity’s dire plots
Slow or fast, point of decision comes
Soon dies a God, just plain dumb

And here the quill scratches no more
And this paper now falls to the floor
For when in these courses do come about
Shall the readers first know the truth in these words, devout
And their spin set with chilling howls
For they fight She To Whom Evil Bows.

(Artifact)
Shield of Darmenclus

Medium metal shield +4 of Cure Wounds: 75/75.

The first of the famous set of artifacts to be wielded by the philosopher-warrior Darmenclus of Aptenia on his many adventures it is said this was a gift to him from the warrior god. Legend says he was lead to it by tracking a wolf he wounded on his right of passage as it took stone after stone yet did not bleed it died while laying on the pristine shield and promptly turned into bountiful grapes cheeses and bread for the young Darmenclus. He then knew he was destined to take wounds for the prosperity of his people. He went on to do so, for a time.

The actual look of the shield varies from a plain round shield in some accounts to an ornate shield of mahogany copper and gold engraven with images of forgotten heroism.

The shield provides the following powers to its bearer who must have been at least at one time of a non-evil alignment and is currently not evil.

Once every turn it shines like the sun, forcing all in the facing of the shield (180 degrees) all in the area looking in that direction must save versus staff at –6 or be blinded for 2d10 days.

Three times a day create food and create water at 25th level.
Levitate (wielder) four times per day.
Raise dead by placing the shield on the body or the body on the shield once a month (at 20th level).
The following abilities may be used once per day:
Fireshield (wielder only)
Shield spell (wielder only)
Protection from evil 30’ radius (centered on shield).
Holy Word at 25th level.

Handicap:
The longer it is held the more the user becomes interested in the legendary hero Darmenclus. At first it manifests as an interest in the history of the artifact and an admiration for the hero. Next it begins with slight flights of fancy of the person imagining they to be him and seeking to do good and right wrongs. After six months of continuous ownership the wielder is convinced that they are Darmenclus reborn and have just discovered this and must by destiny replay the role of the great man, at least they are concerned, up to the fall. Perhaps this life they will be able to absolve the great sins of his later life.

Penalty:
Whenever any ability that requires activation the wielder must save versus paralyzation at –3 or lose 1 point from a random ability for 1 day. The traits return at 3/day.

(Artifact)
Handlethorn (Blood-Thirster, Decimator of Nations)

Bastard Sword +4, +6 versus good of Speed.
Int 9, Ego 11 (+8 modifier if grasp by a good aligned person)

This intelligent black blade (literally) was once in the form of a bastard sword but has since been re-forged into a bastard sword but with a blade only two inches across, it nevertheless retains its lethality. It is known as handlethorn for in both forms the hilt of the sword contains a sharp extrusion that bites into the flesh whenever wielded.

It has the following powers:
The sword radiates a binding affect in a 360 radius stopped by 10 feet of stone or one foot of lead. This prevents shape shifting of any kind.
Flesh to Stone on any creature hit by the weapon.
Weather Control once per day.
Create Normal Monster once per turn (max 60 hd, max hd per creature: 4).
Cloudkill once per day.
Heal All (wielder only) once per day.
Entangle three times per day.
Raise Dead Fully to all evil creatures 6hd or less that wielder desires within 100 once per turn. (the wielder must spend 1 round twirling the sword over head to use this power).
Handicap: Ever week it is kept and wielded handlethorn absorbs one hit point from the wielder permanently the next time it is wielded.

Penalty: Whenever the raise dead fully or the create normal monster power is utilized any time after the first by a wielder the wielder loses 1 wisdom until it reaches 5 and then 1 intelligence until it also reaches 5.

Oh and just to rub salt in the wounds - remember this?
(Artifact)
Book Ends of Infinite Reason

These carved marble bookends can absorb an Avagadro’s number of written words (though thought to be infinite). On command anything containing and expressly made to contain written knowledge is absorbed and on another either all or partial (down to a specifically described piece) will appear. Currently it holds what is left of the library of the Third Tower of High Sorcery and both matching pieces are currently in the residence of the Sage Gunjeern in Burke although she is not aware of anything except that they are magical (as they are not as easily damaged as normal marble is). They are not a high priority on her list.

Diary of Sain

Last night Edgar pried the shield out of the hands of the elven thief who stole it from the temple. His intention of returning seems to have waned even more since then. The treasure is great but so is the reward. At least I hope we can flee with it fast enough.

I haven’t had much chance to write, we have been moving a lot to avoid local authorities. We have decided to keep the shield and from what I have seen Edgar cannot put it down. He keeps it so shiny, in fact he cleans it himself, one less ting for me to do at night. Hooray!

The City of Swords, it is beautiful especially now in the spring. It is one reason why I am so glad I choose to follow Edgar. It is more interesting than the drab life of a thread-weaver that would have awaited me. My employer he is a funny one, he has taken to calling himself E’Dgarmenclus. He seems happy that here he can wear his shield openly and all that those that see it think it is merely a very nice reproduction. He has yet to tell me why we are here by the sea. The horses have been sold and my pockets jingle with coin. Tonight the wine and whores are mine!

I write with groggy mind. I am poor again, robbed by a filthy woman I bedded last night after a few pitchers. Edgar says coin is meaningless anyway, and he seemed half serious. He told me he had used all of his resources (including selling his magical ring!!!) and has hired a ship to sail us far away. To a land a powerful magi had once taken him to. Why again he would not say except that we will make a fortune in this land of spice and exotic things. He promised the women know how to serve a man to. We will see. At least my copy of Poetry of Melle is still in my possession.

A lazy day as the vessel is loaded for our voyage. I have no money to spend and Edgar errr, E’Dgarmenclus has used his last Shirks to buy a net. It boggles me. The docks are an interesting place to watch at least, and our ship is Magnificent. The sailors make it plain that I am welcome sitting down and that only. I find myself drifting off into dreams of this new land.

Today we sail! The sun is bright the breeze is good. I have eaten the last rack of lamb I will for a long time, bought with the coin from telling stories of Edgar and myself fighting the gorgon. How true my shot was that day I shall never forget! Well I am off to load our equipment as (wisely) he doesn’t trust the crew with out possessions and what little treasure he has left.

I can write finally, this endless tossing to and fro has made me unable to steadily write or withhold my morning’s meal. The sea is rough out from the shore.

A few weeks have passed, how many I don’t know. My employer has taken some strange habits. He has grown a beard (again) and his hair is long. It is all well manicured and at first I thought he had simply stropped trying to impress the fairer sex simply because of their lacking presence on board. It seems more than that.

Stormy today, very sick. I have not seen Edgar at all in two days. The bread is moldy.

Those last two days I have found Edgar not sick, well of body , he spent those stormy days writing and rewriting the legend of D’armenclus but wrote it as E’Dgarmenclus. That and polishing his shield. He has also not eaten as I heard the cook say in over 3 weeks yet he looks as well as the Captain.

The day began with land in sight and we received water. The land is known as “Jungle of the Death Fever”. The stop was short and we sailed towards Rerorx’s Beard as he began to show in the sky.

I am lucky to be alive for we were aggressed by pirates. Also stopped to take on supplies and trailing us since then no doubt. We were boarded and Edgar must have defeated 10 men if it were any at all. That shield shone like the sun itself! Two of the crew was lost overboard and one other almost died, dagger in the eye. I swear he had uttered hislast breath when Edgar crossed the poor mans arms over the shield and pulled the dagger out and he rose before us all!!!?!

I haven’t written in weeks. I find myself almost afraid to put quill and ink to paper. Edgar has changed and it is undeniable. Though a mixed blessing, it is is at best. He has been providing fresh food as our stores grow ever staler and low. His mannerisms seem different but he has a calm expression on almost always. His recollections of our times together seem clouded in a mist. He only recalls small parts. The captain grows nervous at our course and time. Why I know not but I shall find more after I sleep.

Of all things, these sailors have more worries than a Clerse woman milking goats when it storms out. Still the ways of the Gods are fickle so we may consider it at least. Sailing into the rising ***** Queen does not sound rewarding no matter. I shall speak with Edgar.

Two days since Edgar refused to host a ceremony or alter course. The crew grows upset. Still the weather is good and his fresh fruits and resurrection have them more genial to his face than to not.

The seas grow rough, the sailors nervous. A heated argument between Captain and Edgar. Still no change. A few drops of blood and a barrel of wine seem small price for safety. Three days till the Maw rises with us. I feel storm-sick once more, at least I hope it is that.

Still waters so very still. Tis the eve of the Maw. They plead with him so desperately not to go on. He calms them with brave words and they listen so long as he is in sight. He is standing on the aft now, surveying the sea. The sails have filled with wind.

Land is in sight, we have made it. We seem to have been a bit off course, to the Great Book. The birds I see are colorful and it is hot and wet. Something is happening now, there are sailors scrambling about! I think I see something in the Ocean.

I am alone save two sailors. Edgar and his precious shield , the captain, nowhere to be found. Planks of the ship still float by. Maybe I can find some people on the island for safety. So many webbed ones so terrible they were. My wounds still burn from the sea’s salt. And so my journal runs out of pages again.

Some of his most trying times:

Letter from the Faithful Cyan to Father Eltide of the temple of Mishakal sent during his imprisonment.

Dear Father Eltide,

I hope this letter finds you well and in good health. This first letter I write to you to you is attending to church business. Unfortunately, the other letter will be even less pleasant but I shall get to that in the other letter. Sharon has opened up vital information to me and I felt that it should be shared with you. Obviously, give its source, this information must be taken with a grain of salt but I’ll leave its interpretation up to you and others wiser than me. First, three years ago when the meteors fell and that woman was discovered and taken prisoner in Brightborn Castle, Sharon informed me that I was Akron Ponderman, Head of the Towers of High Sorocery, who helped free her when the false gods besieged the kingdom. Why, she does not know, but it may mean an alliance of some kind. Secondly, she said that her church has discovered a potential alliance between that woman and Malex. Sharon admitted that they were not sure if this was a distractionary tactic by the woman to have the church of T---esis squander resources, but again it is a potential alliance that must be investigated. Lastly, she admitted that the church of T---esis has already discovered three imposters high in their church ranks. Secret worshippers of the evil new goddess with the abhorrent holy symbol of a woman giving birth to a monster. She warned me to warn you to be on the lookout of potential imposters in our church as well. I wish I had more information to provide you, but as you can guess, I’m not exactly in a position to be an information broker, am I? But sharing information with Sharon has our resulted in our church being stronger………hasn’t it? That’s good for us…… right?

May Mishakal’s blessings guide you and keep you on the path of health and happiness, always.

Yours faithfully,
Cyan

P.s. Please deliver the enclosed letter marked “Aranarth” to him at his tower. Thank you.

Enclosed letter 1

After greeting:

Help. You don’t know what this woman is doing to me. I thought I’d be able to resist her words, her taunts, her attempts to convert me, but her evil weapons are more subtle than even I thought imaginable. And worst of all, she’s starting to make sense. Ok. so…Mishakal must want me in here for a reason, right? Otherwise, why would she have me risk everything I know to save this woman? So if Mishakal wants me here, then she must have some plans for me other than spending the second half of my life behind bars when I could be healing the sick and injured. So if she’s planning to free me, how can she do that without the church hurting in some way? If she simply breaks me out of here, the whole church in Brightborn might be shut down for my unlawfulness. But how else can she free me? She wouldn’t force King Alex II to change his mind… she wouldn’t trick him into thinking I did nothing wrong… she wouldn’t threaten harm to the kingdom if I weren’t freed… Mishakal just wouldn’t do those things. SO WHY AM I HERE??? Father Eltide, you must tell me the truth… is the church of Mishakal suffering because of what I have done? Are there less people coming to the mass because of how I’m associated with Mishakal? Are people, forgive my blasphemous writings, thinking that Mishakal is weak or foolish because she let one of her faithful help free an enemy and then he ends up paying for it with half of his life? I don’t know what to do… I don’t know what to think. Help me. Father Eltide. 11 years ago you saved my life by taking me off the streets. You gave me food, shelter, an education… but most of all, you gave me purpose. I need you one more time, Father. Save my soul. I can feel my faith slipping like sand through my fingers… and the harder I squeeze, the more slips away. I love Mishakal, I love serving her, I love healing the sick. But I don’t know why I’m here for 26 years. Help me… Father Eltide… Help Help Me

The last ‘help help me’ are scrawled down the edge of the page as the penmanship fades to scribble

A story you could have come across if you guys pursued other courses of actions in the campaign:

Years ago we were at war, the Kingdom of Telk was attacking the might city of Burk and we sent troops but most never arrived. They either died in the swamp or picked off by something in the hill pass. Burk was holding out but even the fools could see its fall in the future. It looked bleak as the orc hordes swarmed the countryside near Burk. We felt no pressure here but if Burk fell, if Burk fell…

Well anyway, at this time there was a stranger who appeared in our town from the western border. This stranger was a half-elf many here called him bastard and spat at his feet as he walked. He was determined and kept his head held high through all of this. You see we weren’t used to many strangers in this town and none at all from the West where it is only wilderness. Even the annual hunters and trappers we know enough and this was the wrong season for any of them to come here. I heard that when asked why he was in town his response was “fame and fortune” well he certainly was here at the right time if he wanted that. The rumor came from the innkeeper of the inn he slept that night that he also had a tome of magic with him so perhaps he had come with the secrets of elven magic from the deep wood. No one knew the truth how could they – no one knew him.

It wasn’t long that he was in town before he heard a local farmer was having a heck of a problem with wolves eating his livestock and was offering quite the reward for anyone who could kill the wolf pack or the leader who Mr. Strutter had said was as big as a pony. Fifty gold pieces was no small sum for a farmer to be sure but its offer this or have your livelihood eaten away so what choice is there really? The young stranger eagerly accepted this and set off to the farm.

Now from here on I can tell you only what happened because when he came back he happened to eat at the same Inn I usually play cards in; this is how it became known to me. As he got near the Strutter farm he saw a dwarf bent over the soil with his hoe dropped to his side and hitting the ground with an axe made for war – that was ol’ Hicknob who was just an old mountain dwarf warrior in farm country at the time. They stopped and talked and the dwarf who was Mr. Strutter’s farmhand showed the young elf to him, err to Mr. Strutter that is. The stranger was shown the damage the wolf had caused and where it had attacked and killed the animals. He thanked the farmer for the information and was back in town that evening and headed to one of the temples. There he came out with a young cleric, a naïve young homely girl named Dravine. At the Inn he related his tale to her and promised a cut of the profits from this good deed to go to her that she could give to the church so long as she blessed him for the fight and healed him should he need it during or after. She agreed, I think she was smitten with the young handsome stranger taking an interest in her.

In the morning as I was having some smoke-weed they met again and planned during their morning meal – he had some armor on and she did as well though hers looked borrowed and not knowingly fastened. Then the two set off.

From what I overheard that night the half elf whose name now known to me to be Alex had convinced Mr. Strutter to slaughter a sheep which was tied and hung from a tree low to the ground. That night two of the pack came and approached the meal when Alex sprung upon them. However he retreated from the pair after wounding one and being wounded himself and let them have their meal. They came in hours after dusk, she asked if he was ok and he said yes and she departed for the temple he ate a meal and drank and looked none too pleased about the days events. After eating he went upstairs and I saw a bucket of warm water being taken to his room.

The next day Dravine tended to her normal church functions and the young man explored the town. I saw him jingling his coin pouch as he strolled down the street lost in thought. Now we aren’t a bad town to live about in but we do have our share of lowlifes. One such thief accosted the stranger from behind and must have missed the sword on this Alex’s hip for in one movement the half-elf stepped to the side drew and sliced the arm of the bandit who fled away. This elf pulled a dagger from his belt and threw it at the running thief who was hit square in the back and fell only a few feet from where I was sitting. He fell and coughed blood twice and was still. The town guard who was now running up was just in time to see the half elf cleaning the blood off of both blades and walk away. The town stopped calling him bastard.

(At this point the man got up to refresh his drink and I was left pondering his story, he returned and started warming himself by the fire before too long)

Now at this time in the city there was an Elf, not a stranger but not one known to be either friendly to us humans or to be one to linger and chat. It seems he had brought a strange woman into town supposedly to seek something in the south. Alex in his wonderings that day had come across the body of this woman at the edge of town killed by a sword blow. He brought the body to the temple where Dravine labored and the clerics there spoke to her body and she told them of her murderer – the elf who had been her companion. Alex left right there and sought out this elf himself while the priests alerted the towns guardsmen. The half-elf found him first by his tied horse and challenged him there on the spot in the middle of town. Three sword blows were exchanged and the Elf was near death when he begged for mercy and apologized but told of the cleric secretly worshipping an evil deity. The whole town went to the spot of the murder where the elf said he had broken and threw the unholy symbol of the cleric to the ground and there we found it.

The half-elf apologized in return for the rashness of his behavior and the two dined that night on Alex’s coin. The next day the Elf joined Alex and Dravine back out to the Strutter farm there they convinced the old warrior turned farmhand to join them for his own livelihood and a bit of coin. That night the four of them lay in wait and the wolf pack came out again hunting for easy prey only this time they were the hunted. The pack fell and the head of the largest wolf was presented to the hunter and the pay was split between them. This was more coin than a farmhand sees in a year and so ole’ Hicknob decided to travel to the town to have a night of feast and drink. I remember that night because after two rounds of celebratory drinks no one minded the muddied and bloodied boots or the two strangers in town. After the meal the four of them settled into some quiet talk amongst themselves and the Elf pulled out a map and they all studied it intently.

That morning Hicknob returned in old armor from his earlier days, Dravine had been granted an extended leave of absence from the temple and the Elf and Half-elf met them both at the Inn. From here I only know of what happened from stories told and by people I know in Drapp so the story becomes vague and I won’t tell a word to you that I don’t believe to be the Paladin truth of it all.

They set off south to Drapp following the Elf’s map. After a while they proceeded to a cave in the mountains where it was known an injured white dragon had taken up residence and would occasionally raid those who passed by. It used to be rare anyone would however that’s where the main supply road to Burke traveled at the time so it was much busier which seemed to have cause the dragon to enter a burst of activity. I don’t know how but they slew it and had much treasure with them including supplies meant for Burke. They returned to Drapp and bought supplies and mounts for them all and set out to sell those hoarded supplies to Burke where they had been expected. I have it on good report that they were set on by agents of Telk while returning from that cave to Drapp in order to prevent those goods from being reclaimed however they defeated and sent running those brigands and brought back some blood soaked insignia of the enemy.

After months they turned up at Burke and with them were a young lady who wore the robes of the dark art, one whose robes were red and a few others. By this time though they were quite well known in Burke and had developed a reputation for their skill at defending Burke from attacks and bringing in information from past the enemy’s walls. Some say that in this time they had become so skilled by fighting demons and dragons. Some say they went to the tower of High Sorcery or had journeyed to a lost city and gained secrets of the powers there.

I heard that the lady red robe in their midst was soon growing in power and sought more, how soon she eclipsed Telk and brought them low in a single night and now the party had to pay for its deal with demons or this was the price they had to pay for angelic support. Whatever it was I remember that night as this town and everyone we know stayed inside over the terrible rumblings and to sky that shone like a fiery day to the southeast. Some say and I be one of them that on that day the very gods themselves fought as this group struggled. All that is known is that at the end of it the female mage lay dead but in robes of white, castle Telk lay in ruin but all who slept there that night awoke on the lawn with no harm, their army broken and disbanded. The mage awoke from death with a light in her heart and turned away from fury. That mage and Alex married and within a year where there had only been forest stood the old castle of Brightborn soon to attack all of old Telk to it and then peacefully every human town and city this side of the river and they sit on the throne to this day as our blessed King and Queen.

A way oldie:

Akron’s Farewell (at the inn)

(Invite only Toby, Blai, Altox, and the Kender, before the speech cast fly on the kinder)

I gathered you here to tell you that I’m going to be retiring for a while. For although all of you are great friends of mine and always will be, I long to settle down and quit the adventuring life. I am no longer truly needed here, as my teacher belongs to the group and is greater mage than I (looking at Toby). And within the party there is a greater cleric than I could ever hope to be (looking at Altox), and one of increasing ability (looking at Blai). I am growing older, I no longer have the adventuresome spirit of a rogue like you Blai, and I don’t posses the wanderlust of kinder such as you Aalan, I do not have the battlelust of a cleric of Kiri-Jolish, and I am not long lived as an elf like Toby. Within my short lifespan I wish to experience all of life, already I have experienced several years of adventuring and I hope you continue to have many more years of adventuring ahead of you. I, however, wish to settle down in a small city or town to find a wife and to raise some children I can call my own. My life as an adventurer was sweet but the life that calls me is sweeter still. However if you ever have need of me I will always be there for you. You need only find me.

But before I leave I would like to give each of you something to remember me by. Altox, warrior of Kiri-Jolith, I give you my shield, that you may protect yourself in the midst of the great battles that lie ahead. Blai, I’m not sure what I could give to benefit you but I know you’ve gotten into some difficult situations and managed to get out, but in case you ever get into one again, and have used all your spells maybe this potion of healing will help. Toby, my teacher, I owe you a great deal, but to show you what the pupil is now capable of, I give you all the research papers that I spent 5 weeks or so working on, that you may learn the spell I was working on. But what should I give you Aalan? I know. How about having the ability to fly without a broom, all by yourself, the only kinder who can fly? (pulling out a shiny marble). Take this magical marble, and when you want to fly, yell “Shazzam” really loudly, then close your eyes and concentrate on it for 20 seconds. Now, it doesn’t always work, and at most it only works once a day, but here, If you want try it (hands the marble to the kinder). Farewell friends and godspeed to you. (By the way I still have the communication scroll). If you need me I will be in Burke. (Answer questions.)(Leave.)

Some time afterwards ask Toby if he will humor me by casting fly on the kinder when he concentrates on the marble and hellos shazam. (At least cast it every other or every third time he does it).

Emily's favorite spell:

Sexual blast
duration instantanious
area 10 wide pulse range 200ft
This spell creates a pulse of the casters own sexual will and energy that throbs forth from his body. Anything hit by this takes 4d12 plus 2d4 a level and must save versus crushing blow or be reduced to dust by the potency of the blast. The caster must make a save vs. death or be drained of 1d4 hp a level. The target may save for half damage.

Letter from Cyan Anoah to Aranarth during Cyan’s Imprisonment

Dear Aranarth,

I trust this letter finds you well and in good health. I wish the same could be said for me but I will get to that momentarily. I feel that I need to pass on vital information. However, given its source, you may think it a lie and discard the information but I will leave that decision up to you. Sharon has opened up vital information to me and I felt that it should be shared with you. Three years ago when the meteors fell and that woman was discovered and thought to be some kind of demon or false god or something that hasn’t ever been thought of, remember her? She was taken prisoner in Brightborn Castle but then she escaped when the false gods besieged the kingdom. Sharon reported that it was, in fact Akron Ponderman head of the Tower of High Sorcery who helped free her. I understand your dislike but I believer her. She has no real reason to lie. She even admitted that the church of T---esis has already discovered three imposters high in their church ranks, secret worshippers of the evil new goddess with the abhorrent holy symbol of a woman giving birth to a monster. She warned me to warn you to be on the lookout of potential imposters in places of high ranks. Finally, she reported receiving information about a potential alliance between the woman from the meteor and Malex. Something about one of the western cities being divided into four factions one of which being T---esis’ the other belonging to Malex and they found out that Malex and this woman were linked somehow. Sharon admitted that they were not sure if this was a distractionary tactic by the woman to have the church of T---esis squander resources but again it is a potential alliance that must be investigated. I know this is a lot of information to take in all at once but I felt it vital to relay to you I fear that things are not well with me. I too am being besieged by information from my cell-mate. Unfortuntely…she’s starting to make sense. I don’t know what to believe. I know you tried to save Kazzandra’s life but I can’t help but think that if I were there I might have been able to save her. And I can’t understand why Mishakal would want me here. Please. Pray for my soul. And have Jishu and Raishe send their thoughts and prayers too..I’ll hear them…somehow.

(scribbled in obviously distressed script)
Pray for me,
Cyan

Stats on those enemies you hated: (Forum members know where I got the ideas for them).

Otherworld:

Otherworld creatures are the spawn of a crazed half God and half otherwordly figure of deific power. Otherworld creatures can communicate with each other non verbally and share some similar traits.

Otherworld creatures are type Evil Outsider
Maximum hitpoints per hit die.
Blindsense 60 feet
Can see into the astral and ethereal planes within 30 feet.
Poison: All Otherworld have a poison which shares the following same characteristics: the creature, any successful save against this poison gives a -1 to further saves within 24 hours of any other Otherworld poison.

Warfiend:
HD: 10 (80 hps)
Saves: as 12th fighter
AC: -2
Thac0:2
Init: +4
Damage: Claw 3d6+10, Claw 3d6+10 Bite 5d6+14 +Poison
Poison: (save -3 all stats are reduced by 3, target no longer feels pain which has the game effect of the player not being allowed to see their hit point total)

The warfiend can track with 118% accuracy. Pounce attack requires at least a 15 foot leap and if so all attacks that hit deal maximum damage that round. Anyone in combat range (5 feet) of the warfiend must make a dex check at -2 or take 1d10 damage from spine barbs.

Warfiends are four feet high at the shoulders and these creatures resemble a humanoid twisted by horrific means into four legged creatures with huge curved spines coming off of their backbone. Animalistic and savage they sense flesh flavored with fear and pursue it.

Huvul:
HD: 18 (146 HP)
Saves: as a 20th fighter
AC: -8 (-10 with shield)
Thac0: 5 (-9 with their blade)
Init: +2
Damage: Blade 9d4+12, Bite 3d4+3, Punch 3d6+8
Poison: Save at -3 or be wracked by pain for 1d4 rounds making target unable to cast, lose dex bonus to ac, after that period the target suffers paralysis for 1d6 rounds and then death.
The Huvul carries a shield which blocks 40 hits.
The Huvul is immune to sleep and arcane spells of 1-3rd level and devine spells of 1st and 2nd. It requires a +2 or better weapon to be harmed

Towering 12-14 feet high these are the backbone of the Otherworld army. A strong humanoid frame topped by two eyeless eel shaped heads with sharp rows of teeth and housing a stabbing 2-3 foot long tongue.

Kyv:
HD: 11 (88 HP)
Saves: as 15th fighter
AC: 0
Thac0: -14(bow) 4(base)
Init: +6
Damage: Arrows: 4d4+18 x6 a round or Claw 3d6+3+poison
The Kyv can fire either screaming and biting arrows or arrows of stunning and dispelling at 15th level. Each arrow is the equivalent of a +3 weapon.

Kyv are the ferocious archers bred for power and accuracy, dedicated to collect trophies of their enemy and eager to showcase their skills. They tend to attack anyone with a bow before others if not directly observed by their superiors.

Anuek:
HD:13 (104 HP)
Saves: as 23rd Magic User
AC: 2
Thac0: 5
Init: +1
Damage: By spell or 2d6+2+Poison
Anuek have the casting ability of a 20th level mage and a 18th level cleric. They can cast two spells a round so long is one is arcane and the other divine.
The Anuek carries 4 skulls with it each one has a range of 150. The anuek can once per round imbue the skull with a touch range spell and then make a ranged touch attack. If the skull hits the spell takes effect. The skull is then useless. The skull can be recharged by being hung around the neck of a person who is tortured for at least 4 hours to the point of wishing for death.

Pixxt:
HD: 26 (208 HP)
Saves: as 33rd fighter
AC: -12 (-20 buffed)
Thac0:-20
Init: +5
Damage: Glaive: 4d10+29 (Slicing on 18-20 save v death or die, if save take triple damage) x3.

The Pixxt are the generals of the army. They can attack anyone within 30 feet of themselves with the reach of their weapon and their height. They appear to be 20 foot long lamas with a humanoid front standing 20 feet tall. They wield a double bladed glaive like weapon which is the equivalent of a +5 weapon. Their fur bristles are as hard as steel and provide excellent protection from weapons in addition to giving it the ability to ignore the first 20 points of fire or cold damage from each attack. It is immune to 1-5th level Arcane and Divine Spells. It is always accompanied by two guardian Anuek who serve to protect and rebuff it.

FYI, Ken, his plans for the future include getting his real heart back (he’d like to keep the Heart of Icarus, though). If he can’t keep the Heart otherwise, he’ll continue to live with it in him until he has learned enough powerful warding spells to protect his real heart on his own. He’d also like to study at the Tower (learning as many new spells as he can and better spell ability) and gain Grand Mastery in the longsword. Because he’s not on good terms with his old god (who wasn’t in the fight, but probably isn’t to thrilled with him anyway), Gilraen will probably convert to an appropriate religion on Krynn after a time (if there is a god of the elves). Otherwise he’ll just give homage to all of them. At some point (preferrably after gaining a few levels, Grand Mastery, and some higher level spells), he’ll probably attempt to gather most or all of the good drow he can find into a small community in or near the Kingdom of Brightborn. He’ll also quest for a longsword or two of greater power (+5), ways to improve his natural attributes (without the Heart), and boots of speed so that he can be “ready” if the immortals ever cause more problems. Naturally, he’ll visit Brightborn fairly often (and might pursue that one girl he met at the ball), and will visit his companions. Every once in awhile, he’ll drop in to offer Hicknob(sp?) his services, or to talk or whatever (since he seems to be the only drow Hicknob could accept). Eventually, he might quest for immortality….

Other roleplaying type stuff, so’s you can play him right (in case you forgot) – he’s quiet and usually fully cloaked, in general he doesn’t like using servants, and he prefers melee over spell casting in combat, but won’t hesitate to use the spells if needed.

And finally all of the character reviews I asked for and we got a wide range of opinions on Hicknob:

The Royal Family (Ariel, The King, Crown Prince and daughters)

Ariel the Queen Mother of Brightborn, High Arch Magi, Her Lady of White Light.

Tserina Syl’tor (Human Necromancess): A thousand poxes upon that old sow. How dare she remove my house to the planes of good and appoint an angel that alters someone’s inner nature. By the eyes of Tahkisis, she proves the hypocrisy of good. The over reactive crusader to alter one’s nature is hubris and brings her one step closer to evil’s domain. I must thank her that indignation is another fire in my heart, along with my rape and blinding that will guide my plans. The angel Gabriel will be tortured slowly, flayed in half itself. Its wing feathers plucked one by one and used in the most debased rituals I can devise.

Crown prince of Brightborn His Royal Highness Trayeless Brightborn:

Raishe Abadonn Al’Seru: I am sure the crown prince means well, of the content of his heart that is sure. But his method, far be it from me to comment, is suspect. Knighting me out of the sky is both illogical and unexpected. To freely through aloof authority and privilege is invite to ruin.

King Alex the Second of Brightborn

Raishe Abadonn Al’Seru (Priest Kiri’Jolith and warrior for good) on: The King is a good man over his head in a difficult situation. He deserves respect and whatever aid that we can shoulder. His laws are necessary ever essential for the Kingdom to continue.

Cyan Anoah Prophet of Mishakal A stiff-necked idealist when it comes to law and order. Granted, my opinion may be biased considering what he put me through, but there are times when just because something is lawful, doesn't mean it's right. For example, I was incarcerated for Treason. But if I had allowed the execution to go through, I would have been guilty of something far worse: Murder by inaction. Mishakal herself told me that Sharon was innocent of the crime of which she had been accused. It came out after the fact, that she had indeed been innocent of the charges. Imagine, if you will, that she had been executed - the first ever to be done so in Brightborn walls, I might add. Imagine the outcry if it came out, after the fact, that the executed had, in fact, been innocent. This is something I never got the chance to ask King Alex II. I have a feeling he's been avoiding me for just that reason. In a way, I saved His Majesty's reign by sacrificing half my life so that he wouldn't look like he executed an innocent woman. That being said, he has ruled this kingdom so far with competency and, for the most part, fairness. Only time will tell.

Alex Brightblade the First of Brightborn. Lord, Wizard of the Towers, High Prophet of Paladine

Cyan Anoah Prophet of Mishakal: A pioneer in the ways of ruling a kingdom. His thoughts on personal freedoms are unprecedented in the world, at least as far as I know. He possesses a wisdom that belies his years. In fact, I truly feel that if he had still been ruling when I intervened on Lady Sharon's behalf, I would not have gotten nearly as harsh a sentence as his son bestowed upon me, but let's not open up THAT wound again. He is also a powerful religious leader; as well he should be, for there comes along only 1 High Prophet of Paladine per generation. Having to oversee the workings of an entire Church and its congregants is hard enough (I should know). But to have to rule an entire kingdom along with the workings of a religion order... sometimes I wonder how he sleeps at night... strike that, sometimes I wonder IF he sleeps at night. I would be lying if I said that I didn't wish he were still king of this land. He built this kingdom up from nothing more than a few bickering city-states. And now it is one of the most prosperous kingdoms in the Realm. His heritage also allows him to watch his citizens grow up and grow old around him. I still remember, as a child, hoping he'd do his "Bunny's for the children" one more time. All hail, Long Live King Alexander Brightblade the First!

Aranarth, Dragon mage and Council member of the Towers: I'm betting he's mad as a hatter, underneath all his facades. In truth, as long as he shows up to save the day when we need him to, I couldn't care less. Is that all we really feel about him? Is Alex the great "deus ex machina"? I suppose it could be said that most kingdoms like Brightborn need someone like him, someone who we can depend on to save the day. In many respects, he's a lot like Malex. Too powerful for his own good, and more than willing to use all that monstrous power to achieve his ends; to be perfectly honest, he scares the daylights out of me.

Maylu:

Raise Abaddon Al’Seru: I am afraid I do not understand this being. Apparent he has great power but I do not understand exactly what he has done or what he has to do.

Eniki (Arch druid and wizard stormrider): Hm, a ultimate champion or shepherd of good with power the gods do not even have. Well this certainly challenges what I thought I know about reality.

Liliha: (dragon): Hmm he does seem to disapprove of Boonan, why I do not know. Either he is a most skilled illusionist and conjurer or part of power I cannot comprehend.

Cyan Anoah Prophet of Mishakal I never understood this man. Then again, I never really understood arcane magic and what it can do to the human mind. If Maylu weren’t as powerful of a mage as he is, as a Healer I would assess him as having a mental illness and I would have him sent to the Mishakalite Mind Menders. Not many Mishakalite Healers choose to focus on the “Touched”, but they are magnificent in their works and would be able to help poor Maylu. That being said, who knows what goes on in that mind of his. He shows up unexpectedly, with a new alcoholic drink in his hand every time, he wrecks havoc on those around him and then disappears without a trace. Rather childish really. I honestly wonder whose side he’s on. Then again, I bet if you were to ask him, he’d say he’s on his own side. Let’s just hope he doesn’t send the world to a different plane because he though it would be “fun”. You know, I bet there’s some kender blood in his veins from some point in his ancestry. Only the Gods know.

Grasshopper (Horom Wantanabe leader of the self-destined, philosopher and mystic):

Liliha Kaida: You humans with your great ideas… this democracy I predict will last as long as it’s founder is alive to guide it perhaps if he lives long enough he can establish the foundation of institution that may out last his death…may. Perhaps in a century or so I will re-investigate just to see how it turned out. Who knows, mayhap I will be surprised.

The Patron (Burk’s secret, shadowman, Donneris Ulmen)

Raishe Abaddon Al’Seru: The patron makes me uncomfortable and not just (his) undead status. Yes he has helped before but I count my fingers with every shake of the hand. His goals as he states are in line with ours but I remain vigilant for the other shoe to drop. Yes he aided me in undoing the greatest error I could have committed, for that he earned gratitude but not trust.

Liliha Kaida: (curls claws pensively): I more than most have spend significant amount working closely with the patron but cannot claim to know him. The relationship has been professional. He did cure my entopic infection but not out of kindness. I was a research project albeit one that could talk.
If I hazard a guess he seeks the inner magic of the dragon. Our innate ability to efficiently use the flow of magic and of all the humans I have met I would gather he is the most probable to succeed doubly so since I aided him as he aided me in my spell projects. I do wonder if he can break the limitation of being human, to embrace dragonmagic.

Cyan Anoah Prophet of Mishakal A being of profound evil. While I am proficient in knowledge of Undead Lore, one could spend a lifetime studying this creature. Fortunately, I haven’t had many occasions to interact with him. He is a lich, a mage who, in the ultimate search of power, sacrificed his life, his humanity, his very soul to become an immortal being. Were it within my power, I would banish this creature and all others like him to the Abyss where they belong. Their very nature is in violation of everything we Mishakalites hold dear. First, he chose to end his life early – tantamount to suicide, which is an abomination to the Gods. Second, he did so for the selfish reason of acquiring more power – an act that would make Tahkisis proud. Finally, they spread suffering and destruction wherever they go – not unlike Morgionists. The truly tragic part of this tale is that when those of us who strive to spread goodness across the land are gone, he will still be walking the realms spreading his hatred to all corners of Kirin. May the Gods show mercy on him when his days end, for I don’t know if I could.

Kenshin Ruroni, traveling swordsman and adventurer: A rare breed. Thoroughly evil, yet intelligent enough to be able to set aside his own goals for the betterment of all. He's done it often enough that people might begin to think differently of him. Not I...he's still undead, after all. So long as his goals are in line with the rest of us, we will have little to fear from him. I gather he'd rather be left alone for the most part. All's the better for it.

Boonan (The Way Finder):

Liliha Kaida: Adoptive father Boonan has a unique perspective unlike anything I have seen in humans. Enough so that I had to verify if indeed he was human. (He is) infinitely patient and yet exasperatingly mysterious. It is frustrating to think that I am as yet unable perhaps never able to duplicate in effect what I have seen him accomplish. At first I thought it stylized divination but must now ruefully consider that he has a deeper connection to the universe than I can conceive of.

Hicknob (Lord Prophet of Kiri’Jolith, Slayer of the Dragonqueen):

Grotrek (Dwarven warrior): Bah whiny dwarf you could swear him an elf! You miss your homeland you either drink to its memories or grab our axe and go to avenge! Not standing about moping.

Raise Abaddon Al’Seru: A harsh taskmaster. Demanding, thoughtful, harsh…because he cares deeply for all the good peoples. He demands the best for we are willing to give our lives for the best among us. The innocent. The children. We place ourselves in harms way to save them and he is the first to lead us there. Hicknob I count as a forgiving mentor and I hope a friend. I remain envious of his connection and relationship with the warlord and it can only be expected with a history such as his.

Cyan Anoah Prophet of Mishakal: Ahhh Hicknob. One of the few Kiri-Jolithians who did not speak out against my acceptance of Mishakalites who wished to become "Traveling Healers". My interactions with him directly were usually through Raishe. I am saddened that, by Raishe’s passing, I have had fewer dealings with Hicknob. Nevertheless, there are few indeed who pass through Brightborn who do not at least hear a story about the stout warrior. For those who are wondering, yes, he does in fact train his men while they are hung-over. The logic being that if you can defeat an enemy while you are in an incapacitated state, then defeating him while healthy should be easy. While I, personally, would never let a companion remain “hung-over” if I could, I cannot fault him for his logic. His skills as a warrior are legendary. His skills as a religious leader are likewise. Sometimes I think that he might have it easier than the rest of us in the fashion that he leads his church. When there’s a military structure, with specific rank and order, then it’s easy to know who is in charge and who follows whom. On the other side, the greatest gift that the Gods bestowed upon man is the gift of free choice. Along those lines, I encourage my followers to voice their opinions when I am faced with a decision. That being said, Hicknob has proven himself time and again that he is a powerful dwarf, a powerful leader, and a good friend.

Aranarth: The dwarf is like a piece of artillery. Point him in a direction, set him off, and enjoy the explosions. A good guy, all around, if albeit a little over-zealous. When I think about dwarves as a race, I think about Hicknob. I suppose he embodies everything "dwarfy" for me. The drinking, the axes, all of it. I suppose it could be rightly said that Hicknob fits the racial stereotype very well, and if more dwarves were like him, the world would be a better place for it.

Orphan (right hand of Malex)

Raise Abaddon Al’Seru: Orphan is a psychotic, a mad dog killer to be put down. Bloodglory? Is that his sword?

Eniki: Ahh the meat is but the shell. It is the sword that controls the arm and not the reverse. Some things are too dangerous to let loose. Perhaps I should put some research into this disjunction that Malex threatens the blade with.

George (Godbane, the hollow soul)

Eniki: A fascinating study on prolonged isolation with persecution complexes. An absolute raving psychotic until that Dwarf cured him. Perhaps my initial impression was incorrect. There is far more to him than would appear. Perhaps these people have brought something worse to this world than they have intended.

Retzan Al’Alerack The Lord of Fire Mountain

Raishe Abaddon Al’Seru: A puppet master who revealed my own weakness. One who gave me a dream that I fell for. His vision blinded me and I gave into my own desires. He terrified me, a national legend, an object of fear. Together we learned the harsh lessons. Power should not be senselessly grasped and prophecy cannot be forced. Gods know how much suffering we caused learning this lesson. Many have forgiven but can I ever forgive my own folly? Truly I rue the day I ever met Al’Alerack.

Eniki: A fine fellow of excellent mystery! I enjoyed thoroughly the time I bore but a fragment of his ancient memories. Granted we disagree on the nature of the elements, the course of supremacies that is only natural. Nature…nature, what wordsmanship. Unlike many fellow elementalists he can discus the maters rationally and with that angry passion of most fire elementalists His mastery is something I can aspire to over my life, though of other elements of course.

Harold Leader of Elemental Prime:

Eniki: A focused passionate individual as many fire elementalists tend to be, a shame about his retirement. Humans fail out so quickly.

Liliha Kaida: The epitome of humanity, greedy, grasping possessions, power and not the wisdom to use it correctly. Attempting to alter the nature of history to satisfy his personal grief.

Raise: I salute his success as a leader of men and admire the discipline he commands with while rage at my own failures.

Father Eltide Prophet of Mishakal:

Cyan Anoah Prophet of Mishakal: How does one sum up in a paragraph or two how one feels about his father? For that is who Eltide was to me. He was more than a mentor, a leader, and a faithful servant of our beloved Mishakal, but to me he truly was my father. Having lost my father at the age of 6, Father Eltide (who at the time was "Prophet Eltide") took me in, cared for me, educated me, and taught me the ways of Mishakal. I know that he was disappointed when I admitted to him how my heart ached to see the world and that my wish was to become a Traveling Healer, but he was able to recognize Mishakal's intervention when it occurred, and so he gave me dispensation from the Church to pursue my journeys. Fortunately, his disappointment would not last, for every time I contacted him or visited the church in Brightborn, he always had a smile on his face as he spoke to me. Sometimes the smile was out of humble piety, but I knew that he felt for me as I felt for him. Now, I know he dwells with Mishakal, and that he is resting comfortably in her warm embrace. I know that the same fate awaits me when my time comes, but I also know that I still have more to do. I truly hope he is proud of me, because I most certainly am proud of him.

Akron Ponderman Arch Mage of the Towers of High Sorcery

Cyan Anoah Prophet of Mishakal: The High Wizard of the Tower of High Sorcery. A secretive man, but then again, I’ve worked with enough mages to know that they hold their secrets very close to themselves. Why? I have no idea. Divine magics are pretty much out in the open. Everyone knows what we can do, and there’s not much change in that area going on. Maybe there will be now that the Gods are asleep. I’m still getting used to not feeling Mishakal’s presence as greatly as I used to. But I digress… Akron is a man of vast intelligence and talent. Nevertheless, he seems to guard his knowledge of current events almost as tightly as he guards his personal spells. Any time I spoke with him, which granted was few and far between, it was like trying to pry open a mage-locked door just to get at a couple of coins on the other side. Then again, I guess one should be glad to even find him, what with how busy he is on a day-to-day basis. I shall have to get in touch with him fairly soon. I wonder if he and the rest of the mages are feeling the same weakening in magic as we priests have. Be that as it may, he is a good man with more knowledge that I could have hoped to have gained even if my actual age matched my apparent age. May he continue to guide the Wizards along the path of goodness and light.

Harold Flenth High Priest of Mishakal

Cyan Anoah Prophet of Mishakal: <sigh> Ever since I assumed the leadership of the church, I have felt as if I were walking up against a current. If I had to give this force a name, it would be Harold Flenth. I don’t hold any malice or grudge against him. In fact, I am thankful for his presence in the church. <smile> He keeps me on my toes. I only wish he were not so vocal about his disagreements with my decisions. From the moment I approved Mishakalites becoming “Traveling Healers”, he has planted seeds of discontent amongst the other priests. Even at times when the thing we needed most was unity. I think the one time we actually agreed on something was when we needed to act after the horrific fate of young Joseph. After his tragic loss, Brother Harold proposed the plan to let the people take their anger out on us. I truly feel that this act lessened the hatred that the masses held towards the Gods. I only hope that Mishakal will forgive me for choosing an act that led to the death of one of her faithful. That being said, it gives me satisfaction knowing that such a passionate priest will be around to take the reigns when Mishakal calls me to her side. Knowing that he will lead the church down a road that is completely opposite mine does not bother me, for I know that, once I pass on, I shall have no say in the matter. I also know that he is a faithful man, sworn to Mishakal and her ways. How he chooses to interpret those ways are for him to decide.

Lady Sharon, High Prophet of Tahkisis, Mistress of the Dark Queen

Cyan Anoah Prophet of Mishakal: Well, if there’s one thing I learned in my time spent sharing a prison hallway with Lady Sharon of Tahkisis, it is that her greatest weapon is not her spells, it is not a mace or a sword, it is her words. Truly, that was something I was not prepared for. Every argument I used to sway her from her evil ways, she had a counterargument to sway me from good. Her mind is as sharp as her tongue. Yes, because of her, I experienced a crisis of faith. I don’t know where the crisis would have ended up if Mishakal had not intervened in the way she had. While it did cost me half my life, I would make the same sacrifice again if that is what Mishakal wished. As for Lady Sharon, evil turns upon itself. I pray for her every day that she comes to see the light that this world can provide, that there is happiness and joy, peace and love. All these things, while she may SAY she has experienced, she can never truly know. For every day she chooses this path, she chooses to live in the shadow of the Dark Queen, and in that shadow there is only loneliness and despair, lies and deceit. If she does not turn away from this path, only the Abyss waits for her, with an eternity of darkness. Mishakal, watch over this woman, one of your children who has strayed from the path of light, and welcome her back into your loving embrace when she returns. Amen.

Aranarth: This was someone who operated on a level I cannot understand, or come to terms with. The ability to become a martyr is quite simply beyond me. I'd love to write her off as a loss, but its not that simple. I'd prefer the evil that I know than the evil I don't. I must admit, there's a part of me that wishes her well, despite everything. Not being a particularly religious person (I prefer to believe in the power of the individual), I imagine that Ladonna has gone on to her just reward. I can't begin to imagine what "reward" there might be for serving Tahkisis, but whatever it is, I'm hope she's enjoying herself.

Malex, Wizard, Scourge of the North, Hater of All, He who is cloaked in Hearts.

Cyan Anoah Prophet of Mishakal The man responsible for the destruction of Brightborn, including the Temple of Mishakal. If I wasn’t so exhausted from the hours spent healing the injured and rebuilding the Temple, I might actually have the energy to feel hatred towards this man. However, no good ever came of hatred, as Father Eltide used to say. Instead, I am only saddened by the pain and suffering he imposes upon the world – I know because his victims (those who live, that is) come to the church every day. Nevertheless, the rebuilding is going along nicely and, when completed, Mishakal’s house will be even more beautiful than before.
Power can be a dangerous thing. When in the hands of one with a heart as dark as Malex, it can nearly bring about the end of the world. Malex sold his soul to darkness to obtain the power of the Gods. What he seemed to fail to remember is that “evil turns upon itself”. He was only destined to lose his power once those who were more powerful than him no longer had a use for him. Of course, I could never get close enough to tell him this. A man consumed with so much evil that he rivals some of the Dark Gods themselves, it’s amazing the man could even think straight. One would guess that to be filled with so much darkness and hatred that he would start to see conspiracies and threats where they didn’t even exist. Then again, it does not solve anything to dwell on such matters. The Gods gave man the gift of free will. We all must make choices in our lives, and he made his.

Alex Arch Druid and Lupine Shape shifter: If nothing else, you must admire the man's tenacity. We spent so much time and energy foiling him, poisoning his plans, killing his servants, destroying his city. Yet, he kept on plugging away. That sort of determination shouldn't be underestimated. Is it the destiny of the powerful to be overthrown? All things abide by the natural cycle. In that way, he came to power, and then fell. It is the way of things, nothing more. Think of it in this manner: all living things have the instincts to preserver their own lives, even worlds.

Lycra, Wizard, Brother of Malex:

Aranarth: A man completely out for himself. Nothing wrong with that at all. Adaptable, smart and powerful. He's a good example of why it’s so difficult for "evil" to come out on top. Trust is the basic foundation of all relationships. When you expect people to betray you, it’s hard to trust anyone. It'd be worth my time and trouble to make him an ally. Too bad he's so paranoid.

Malishara Full winged white angel of Paladine.

Kenshin: I saw her at the beginning, and again at the end. If there's one particular example of why we should all carry hope in our hearts, it’s her. Her redemption proved to me that any evil, no matter how malicious, is not only capable of changing, but worthy of the change. It’s a story that begs to be retold again and again, and one that I will personally make sure receives the attention it deserves.

Theodore Velin-Ture the Third (Inky) Second of the black robes.

Aranarth on Inky: Moron. Complete and utter moron. Self-obsessed and delusional. Obnoxious. Arrogant. He's dangerous, none the less. I'd heard rumors that he wanted to challenge me, and I doubt I'd accept. Not that I couldn't defeat him...I'd simply rather not take the risk. And why should I? For bragging rights? Pfft. Maybe I should make a spell that engulfs the target in a harmless beam of light. I bet he'd love that.

That annoying shield Malex always had up:

This potent and powerfully evil spell requires specific preparation. It requires a number of rubies of not less than 5,000 gold pieces and an equal number of hearts ripped from the chest of a living humanoid. The total number of these cannot exceed the caster's level -9. Each ruby lowers the caster's ac by 1, each heart may improve any saving throw of the caster by 1 (caster's choice when cast). In addition the quasi living shield will react to automatically protect the caster in the following way: If the caster wishes the shield will negate any damage or effects of a physical hit and consume a ruby. If the caster wishes the shield will consume a heart to automatically negate the effects of any spell targetting the caster. If the caster wishes the shield will consume one of each in order to negate the first 30 points of damage from any source, the next twenty point of damage is unstopped and if there is any additional damage it is reduced by 1/5th. A succesful dispel magic will destroy one heart, and the rubies can be shattered by physical damage however they are especially hard to hit (twice the ac that the shield gives) and immune to any weapon of less than +3 enchantment and each can take 15pts of damage before shattering. A rod of negation will destroy half of the remaining objects although which ones are destroyed is determined randomly. The casting of this spell consumes the objects and the spell can then be unleashed at anytime thereafter. Dead magic, anti magic and dispel magic attempts will not interfere with this spell before it is unleashed. Unleashing the spell is a free action. The penalty for casting this spell is the loss of 5 wisdom and the moving of 15 segments towards evil.

And to be fair - one of Alex's protections:
Abjurer's Mantle

This powerful abjuration spell serves mostly as a way to consolidate many spells of lesser power into one long duration spell thus limiting the time spent casting protective spells and keeping track of the duration of each independent one. This spell surrounds the caster and all belongings in an aura about 1 foot in depth which can by will glow a soft color of the caster's choice shedding enough light to see up to five feet away. The main functions of the spell are: Improve armor class by 6 ( 9 in regards to missile attacks ) Prevent enchanted beings from touching the target physically in any round the subject has not yet physically touched the target. This does not prevent ranged weapons, melee weapons, thrown projectiles and the like from affecting the subject not does the protection fade if the subject uses melee weapons against the target, only physical contact. Magic Missile attacks against the caster get a saving throw for no damage.Prevents the subject from being the victim of any possession (such as magic jar) or compulsions (such as dominate or enslave) or charms. Stops non magical projectiles from harming the target if they are fired by hand (boulders and large projectiles are reduced in damage by 30 points). Cantrips cannot be used on the target. Creatures of 1/2 hit die or less cannot come within 5 feet of the target. The target's movements cannot be impeded by physical conditions such as rope, chains, grapple, and the target may act freely in water. While in effect the follow spells cast on the caster have no effect: Armor, Shield, Protection from Evil, Protection from Normal Missiles, Protection from Cantrips, Protection from Vermin, Free Action.

Signature Inky Spell:
Tiny Orb of Icy Death
This spell creates a tiny 3" orb that travels away from the caster to the position withn 120. A cone of cold then issues forth 60 in the direction the caster wishes. The cone deals 1d4 per level of the caster in damage and an additional 10 for every 10 closer a victim is than the maximum range. The save against this is made at a +2 bonus.

The spell used to level1/4 of a city state:

Ripple of Destruction

The caster extends his arms out in front in a right angle and a huge bubble of force issues from the caster's mouth resounding and building in power between the arms until released with a visible ripple as the powerful force is issued. Once issued the force is non magical, just a wave of tremendous pressure that flows through the air. It doubles in width every five feet it moves away from the caster. Every 800 feet it travels it halves its damage and any saves gain a +3 bonus. Everything within 800 feet takes either 1d12xL of damage or 1d10xL structural damage whatever is appropriate. Any creature is struck blind and deaf as those organs rupture and those with con below 23 must save versus crushing blow as thick wood or be stunned for 4d4 Turns, those with 20 con or below save as thin wood. Any constructs are shattered instantly if below Huge size and then they must survive a crushing blow relating to what they are made of and even then they may be destroyed by the damage. The casting of this spell is very taxing of the caster redering the caster unable to use their voice for 4 days and causing the caster to have to save versus spells each for int, wis, con, and str or lose 4 from the stat permanently.

All the above are 9th level. This one is 8th.
Don't think anyone ever got hit with it:

Spell Sloth
This spell brings into being an invisible jumble of magical energies around the target that slow down any magical effects emanating from the target.  Any spells or spell-like abilities the target tries to use will be delayed one round for the duration of the spell.  Once attempted to use the target cannot rescind the action, that magical power is already manifested it is merely slowed through the Spell Sloth.  An affect if known, can be targeted and dispelled while caught in the Spell Sloth; any attempt to do this has a 30% chance of also destroying the Spell Sloth.

Another Alex defense I don't think was ever seen level 7:

Halting the Single-minded Pursuit
The subject of this spell is protected from all rays and any spell which requires a roll to hit at range. Any rays striking the target gain an additional saving throw before any normal affects or saving throws are made. Success on this saving throw causes the ray or to hit attack to seemingly freeze and fall to the ground harmlessly. Thus a ray of distinigration or an acid arrow spell would freeze and drop nearby the protected caster. Any rays are equal in length to the distance from the caster of the ray to the target, other spells are of a shape natural to the spell for example acid arrows freeze in rough arrow shape. A failure of the additional save means that all effects of the spell are resolved normally. The caster can pick up and wield with no penalty any of these frozen effects and make touch hit attacks against any to have them suffer the effect of the spell whereupon that spell is consumed and no longer frozen, theses spells can also be thrown as javalins. ANyone who comes in contact with the frozen effects who is not protected by this spell also takes those effects normally. All spells frozen by this spells persist until this spell ends. Any attemp to break the rays or effects when wielded by the subject of this spell that hit and do damage will break the frozen spell into useless pieces.

Nobody ever went air elementalist but if they would have this would have been theirs at level 7:

Tornado Shield

This spell creates a funnel of moving air around the caster. The speed that the air moves is a base 120 + 10 miles an hour every 2 levels. The target of this spell is immune to any missile attack whose average damage is equal to or less than one tenth the speed of the shield as the wind rips them around their target. The target also gains an ac bonus equal to the speed of the winds divided by ten, rounded down against all attacks. Any character attempting to strike the target of this spell must resist a disarm attempt against the caster’s thac0 and strength rating equal to the speed of the winds divided by ten minus ten. Any attempt to use the spellcraft skill on the target to know what spell is being cast is made at a –8 due to poor visibility. If there is lose material in the area it will get swept up into the shield dealing 1d6 points of damage plus an additional d6 per at 200 and 300 miles per hour to anything within melee range if the caster) . This spell also purifies any gaseous poison or acid for the target.

As a Neutral Good guy Alex would rather discourage people from certain areas without killing them (ask him about making pillow golems)

For now this 6th level spell will have to suffice:
This spell that looks like a natural fog bank of variable density can be cast either centered oneself in which case it moves with the caster or centered on an area.  In addition to having all the visibility limiting properties of a wall of fog; any person other than the caster in the cloud must make a saving throw versus spell with a –1 modifier for each round they are in the cloud or the totally forget who they are, what they are doing, their class and all information relating to their character.  They are for the most part disinterested in their surroundings and will most likely simply wander away.  They will defend themselves if attacked but will do so without the aid of spells, weapon mastery, command words and will react mostly as 0 level npc’s.  This fugue state persists after leaving the cloud for the duration of the spell the number of rounds they had been exposed to the cloud.  Their memory returns at the rate of 1 segment of themselves per round, the first round they remember their class and regain class features, the second they remember themselves including name and history and the third turn they remember their purpose for being in the cloud and any recent events of the last 2-3 days.  Any attack on an individual suffering from the Fugue breaks the Fugue.

Who can forget Harold the braggart using this spell to down enemies with ease the party had trouble with (one of the most spell efficient 5th level spells in the game):

Pyric Lash
This spell summons one tendril of fire 20 feet long +5 foot/2 levels plus an additional tendril every 5 levels. These make a touch attack at the caster's Thaco in order to hit a target, once hit they begin to constrict and pull the target down. Once hit the tentacle does 2d6 contstriction damage per round and 1d4 fire damage +1d4/5 levels to the target. The tentacles can be dispelled individually at +20% chance of success or as a whole spell for normal chances. Each tentacle can be severed by 25 points of damage or more from an edged weapon or double that from a piercing or bludgeoning from a magical weapon. Each tentacle is shrunk by 1 foot for each point of cold damage it takes. A tentacle must be half as tall as a target in order to constrict. Each tentacle is treated as having strength equal to the intelligence of the caster for the purposes of trying to break out. Any creature grappled loses dex and shield bonus to ac. A medium sized creature can be targetted with two tentacles, every size larger can be targetted with 1 more.

Alex was usually about getting things done through brute force (unlike Akron or the Patron). Luckily he had the force to do it. Level 4

Planar Crack
This spell is a brutal assault on the barrier between the plane the caster is at and it's neighboring planes. It opens up a rift to a random plane touching the current one. Anything knowing about this weak spot can pass into the plane at will, anything passing through the area has a 10% chance of being taken to the plane accidentally. The plane is decided randomly but does not change and divination magics may deduce the target plane easier. In areas where connections to other planes is strong (say deep underground or in pristine ocean) there may be a slightly higher chance that the strongerly associated plane is connected and a slightly less that an opposing one is.
