So I finished what I was playing, and I finally broke down and decided to make my first purchase on the *shudder* Playstation Store. I'd heard journey http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/journey was really good, and exclusive, so I bought it. A half hour ago. It's now to 100 out of 600MB. This is acceptable these days? I'm on freaking 25/25 internet! I could've pirated it ten thousand times already! F you Sony!

Oh, come on. That's 56k, not 28.8.

Weirdness. Journey took me I think 4 minutes to download.

On the upside, once it did download, I loved it. Couldn't quit until I made it to the end. Really wonderful experience.

I've had to DMZ my PS3 to get download speeds that are anywhere near acceptable.

Yeah, I remember once upon a time I pretty much avoided downloading anything on PSN because back when Sony were being moronic about it and insisted on building their own content distribution centers it did feel like downloading on a 28.8. They eventually wised up and switched to Akamai for their content distribution though (same service Microsoft uses) and since then I've had no complaints.

Mass Effect 3 for instance took well under 2 hours to download off PSN, and that was 13 gig.

Probably could have opened up the right port (the one that others connect to so you can do your uploading) and gotten the same effect. All this says to me is that the PS3 was using a peer to peer model that throttles if you're not doing your uploading share. Sticking it in your router's "DMZ" (which, on most consumer routers is simply an automatic forward on all ports) rectified that, so now they give you good rates since you're doing your part to save them money like a good little gamer.

I've never gotten it to play nice with regular port forwarding settings or even UPnP. The PS3 just gives the finger to my router unless I say **** it and set it to the DMZ.
