http://www.gameinformer.com/p/elderscrollsonline.aspx No real news other than "Hey! Elderscrolls online!" Also, information that I can't find a source for says it will take place 1000 years before Skyrim, you will be battling a Daedric prince and there will be PvP between three factions. And it is supposed to be release 2013. |

The Internet appears to be seething with rage at this. I just hope they can catch TES-style gameplay with an MMO, but I have my doubts. |

Meh? My biggest interest in this is curiousity over whether they'll try to pitch it for consoles, and if they do, whether they'll try for cross-platform mixing on the same server. |

Honestly, I would find an MMO Elder Scrolls game more appealing than the single player game. The Elder Scrolls games are huge sandboxes. That doesn't hold a lot of appeal for me in a single player game. Now, there are some gameplay elements that I'd want changed before I committed to playing. Character advancement leaves something to be desired. Bethesda took the worst aspects of skill-based advancement and level-based advancement and mixed them. Three-faction PvP just says WoW ripoff. Actually, they're ripping off Dark Age of Camelot, but most people don't remember that game. It's their, "We're better than WoW because we have an extra faction!" pitch. I hate PvP to begin with, and PvP factions only serves to segregate the player base. |

What kind of pvp setup do you like? Something akin to the EQ "blue" servers, or unrestricted, or what? |

The PvP setup I liked best was Unreal Tournament. Planetside sounded pretty cool, but I never got around to trying it. Team Fortress similarly sounds cool, I just never tried it. But we're not talking about FPS games. Perhaps you missed the part where I said I hate PvP to begin with. Whatever PvP setup a game has, I would rather it not interfere with my experience in any way, shape, or form. PvP factions that can't talk to one another or group with one another is a negative. I have no interest in PvP at all, so the PvP teams should not dictate who I get to play with, or what race/class I play. In WoW, I either don't get to play what I want to play, or I don't get to play with my friends if they pick a different PvP team than me. The same holds true for SWTOR. It doesn't matter that Horde has priests, too. Maybe I wanted to be a human? Maybe I wanted to be a dwarf? That choice gets removed in WoW, and for no reason other than to support an aspect of the game that I'm not interested in. Next, I don't want items balanced around PvP, or abilities altered (either buffed or nerfed) because of their implications in PvP. I don't want to log in and have my abilities (that I put a lot of thought into selecting) or my gear (which I put a lot of work into obtaining) **** up because something was unbalanced and overpowered or underpowered in PvP. It's not that I object to PvP itself. If people want to do it, fine. What I don't want is for it to alter my game experience. Now, when a studio announces PvP factions, they're telling me upfront that they're going to focus on PvP. In other words, they're telling me that I'm better off going out and buying the latest Call of Duty. |

What I really dislike is gear and stats that are specifically for pvp purposes. I find this incredibly annoying. I actually really dislike having to lug around multiple sets of gear at all, but specifically having one that's for fighting enemies of no special note other than that they're controlled by other players is incredibly annoying. |

I agree as well, although I don't really have a problem with factions in and of themselves. In TES though I think any factions would be at best highly artificial and hurt the overall game atmosphere. |

I quit MMORPGs in 2001-2003 (?) and haven't looked back, this game actually has me considering going back. |

I'm becoming more and more convinced that balancing PvE and PvP in the same game is just about impossible. Blizzard has basically infinite resources and they seem to have come the closest, but it is still lame. Fortunately, the market is large enough for there to be single player games, PvE games, PvP games, all at the same time! Hooray! |

I'm becoming more and more convinced that the only market future MMO's are going to be able to penetrate are niche. Very strong PvE, very strong PvP, some other gimmick. It is just impossible to balance them all and come anywhere close to WoW, that pattern is full, as evidenced by the giant pile of dead bodies outside of Blizzard's cave. |

So Gameinformer had a 6-8 page article about this game and it has killed my appetite for it. The lore and world are Elder Scrolls (Tamriel) but the combat system, skills, and pre-defined calsses as described sound to have killed my favorite game style (sneak & snipe with bow). |
