It looks neat and will be doing a stress test this weekend. I found the skill trees to be absolutely insane. I mean, damn yo.

Played for a few hours. Pretty cool game except the currency system has got to be one of the most retarded things I've ever experienced in a game ever. They don't use gold like in traditional games. No, they use identification scrolls and various orbs that can turn normal items into magic items, give magic items new stats and other various things. I can't really put it into words how horrible it is, but if you give it a try, you will understand.

That coupled with the inventory system that won't auto sort your items as you pick them up to ensure the most items will fit makes it really tedious to play. And the storyline isn't that great. I do love the massive skill tree and abilities work exactly like materia in FFVII where you socket gems into items to gain abilities that will level up with experience.

If they changed the currency system and made the inventory smarter, it would be worth playing more. But since it doesn't...meh.

Necroing the crap out of this...

Just started playing this last night. It's a Diablo-like in playstyle. And, as Raltar has related, the skill/leveling system is split in twain. Skill points earned from gained levels (and quest rewards) are spent in the passive skill tree. Active skills are acquired from gems (materia) and those gems gain experience (while socketed) to increase the power/efficacy of the skill they provide.

Disliking the currency system is somewhat irrelevant. There is a base currency. It's not what you'd expect, but it still operates in like fashion. Likewise, although the inventory management is manual, maybe I'm just that good at spatial relationships, I don't find it to be troublesome. It's Diablo inventory management.

The avowed intent of the game is to be free to play, with no pay to win. All real-money transactions are for cosmetic enhancements only. The reason to purchase cosmetic enhancements is so that you support the developers.

This sounds right.

I tried it for a while.

Ultimately, since i never liked Diablo-style gameplay, I didn't care for this either.

Ooh, interesting. May try it when I get home.

One warning, their security is fairly sensitive. I signed up while I was at work. Then after I downloaded it at home and logged in, it told me I was locked out due to unfamiliar login source. It's trivial to generate an unlock code and get into the game, but it was somewhat surprising. Although a pleasant surprise, all things considered.

I tried it for a while too, but I lost interest kind of quickly. Ultimately, it's a clickfest.

That said, the skill tree system is something new and different.

This thread apparently didn't register with me. My wife found this game and began playing it last night. I was pretty impressed at just how good of a Diablo 2 (not 3) clone this thing was, but with far more improvements. It's almost like what D3 should have been. It is so much of a clone, that it even retains all the shortcuts that D2 had. Like shift-clicking to quickly sell an item.

It being free to play is an even bigger bonus. I will have to give this a bit more looking into.

I gave it a whirl last night.

It satisfies the urge to play Diablo, without having to give Blizzard money for the Diablo 3. It's well designed, including the currency system Raltar ***** about. Gold was worthless in D2, so it was replaced with identify scrolls, and items which reshuffle either your equipment's gem slots or bonuses - things other players will generally always want to trade for.

I might give it another shot at some point. The currency system never bothered me, but I found that the storyline was uninteresting and the witch, at least, ended up being a single-ability spamfest.

Gave it a whirl the other night because it showed up on Steam's list of featured games and it's free. Like Talya, though, I was never really big on Diablo to begin with and thus am not feeling very moved by this.

It basically boils down to enjoying Rogue* type gameplay or not. I know that for me, the frustrating grind for gear that was Everquest made my enjoyment and distraction of Diablo much more enjoyable. Random loot, random dungeons, random monsters, chances for good upgrades at a good pace. It kept me from going mad.

* - Some people may be more familiar with a game that came after Rogue and was a clone/copy of it: Nethack.

Gave it a try yesterday at a friend's request. I pretty much agree with Coro. I just wish there was a little more hand-holding. Maybe there was a tutorial I missed? I played a couple hours and never found a portal scroll or waypoint. I was starting to think I'd have to run everything back to town in order to sell stuff off. Also, the skill system wasn't at all clear to me. I'm still trying to work through skill synergies but I like that aspect to things. I can pop fire and ice arrows in alternating fashion for quick and easy AoE.

I might actually consider some microtransactions to support this game.
