I purchased a few games from Steam recently and I was just wondering if I could use mods on these games.

Yes.

Some games even have mod downloads *in Steam!* These are generally Steam Community Workshop games.

You can install 3rd party mods, as well.

Yep, just as kaffis said. The only difference is that when you install 3rd party mods, obviously the game folder and files will be in different locations than the directions usually tell you they are.
