Galaxy on Fire 2 HD - Available on iPad, PC or MAC

PLAY THIS GAME!

Linky!

Was on sale for the iTunes app store for $0.99 and I would have paid much, much more than that for this game.

So immersive. Plenty of star systems to explore, asteroids to mine for materials, ships to customize and outfit as you wish. Freelance pirate hunting missions, civilian transport missions, protection missions. Everything I could have asked for in a space shooter is right here. So much fun, going to burn a lot of iPad battery on this one.

Will def. pick this up for PC if it goes on sale on Steam.

Foamy gives four thumbs up for this game.

Hehe, I think I've linked that one a couple of times before.

It's fantastic.

I play (mostly) the SD version on my Gen1 iPad. Got all 4 difficulties sitting finished, all ships, with 12 mil credits or so.

New expansion set to be released in the next few days.

Worth noting that Extreme is very fun to play. It completely takes off the easy mode that exists in all other difficulty levels, and makes stealth and a fast ship a necessity.

From my days of playing Wing commander with Elmo on the SNES...

Reminiscent of the dreaded escort missions (UGH), whenever I am driving and find myself alongside a large truck (Tractor-trailer or the like), I always imagine that I am the speedy, more manuverable, fighter ship alongside the bulky, slow freighter/capital ship whom I am escorting to the nearby warp/jumpgate amidst heavy resistance.

Am I the only one?

Well I never imagined that BEFORE!

Thanks a lot :psyduck:

So, help me out -- the trailer on their site wasn't very informative.

Are we talking a rail shooter, tunnel flight, or free-roam flight? I see almost no UI elements.. radar, target locking, or just point/tap and shoot?

What makes you compare this to Wing Commander, most holy of Space Sim series alongside TIE Fighter?

And, since I'm firing off a barrage of questions relating to space sims, why the hell did Futuremark cancel their PC exclusive one? That thing looked gorgeous.

Free-roam flight.

Each "planet" is set up with a station, asteroids, and randomly spawned fighters. There's no technical size limit on the area, that I've found. Flight between planets is by targeting the next planet and engaging a hyperdrive. Flight between systems is either by jumpgates, or a late-in-game built wormhole drive.

There's a basic waypoint-type flight system for out of combat, in combat it's entirely user controlled. You can "target" items by holding your target reticule on them for a set amount of time (less with better sensors)

You can roll left and right, adjust throttle, and projectiles move in real time. You have a booster for speed, with a recharge, as do all your enemies.

On tablets, you can either use a screen joystick, or you can use tilt controls to fly. UI elements are semi-adjustable for position, and sensitivity is adjustable.

As far as other gameplay, besides the story line, you can trade between systems to make cash, acquire blueprints and craft weapons and equipment, do jobs, higher wingmen, kill pirates, etc.

There are 4 basic factions, set up in two warring groups. Killing one makes you friends with the other, so you can play that game as well.

Ships drop scavengable loot when killed, you can use senors to see what the loot will be ahead of time. You have to have a tractor beam to pick up the loot, you have to manually lock the weaker tractor beams.

Kaffis,

I just downloaded and played this briefly on my N7. It's free on the Market.

Oh, and to add, yes, radar and target locking. Target locking works for missiles, manual aiming for (most) other weapon types.

Note that missiles change course if you change a lock before they detonate, making it comparatively easy to accidentally hit friendly forces.

But only if you have a Tegra processor.

Which is silly.

Well, it is and it isn't. This is the downside to the hardware divergence issue. They've only bothered to code for one hardware spec.

So much fun on my iPad. I want it on PC too. Give me a shout later today (Should be home between 1-4 watching the Eagles game) I'll tell you all about what makes this game the (IMHO) perfect immersive space shooter.

I'm rather confused. My TF300 has a Tegra 3, but it's telling me it's not a compatible device.

I have the Xperia Play version of the game. (With expansion now).

It works very well with the analog controls/buttons on it. Great game.

Just downloaded the Valkyrie\Supernova DLC bundle (iPad) and I couldn't be happier.

This is pretty much my go to game right now. Maybe because I am psyched for Star Citizen, this game is fits the void that SC is leaving since it is yet 2 years away (1 year for alpha)

Currently I am making trade runs in my Terran Rhino dropship to the blackmarket pirate system, Loma and making millions. I already have the Kaamo spacestation as my homebase and I am stockpiling ships and weapons. True to my gaming form, I am pretty much ignoring the main story line and just tooling around the galaxy picking up random missions and making trade runs.

All in all, Galaxy on Fire 2 has been a great stopgap solution for my space sim game needs. Obviously nothing near what Star Citizen will be, but it has definitely scratched an itch I didn't quite realize I had since my days of Wing Commander on the SNES.

If you aren't playing Extreme, I highly recommend it.

I've got all the good medals in each difficulty, but the rest are just such a cakewalk compared to Extreme.

I'm tempted to, but I don't want to start over. I'd like the new challenge, but I have earned so much in my 60+ hrs. of gameplay.

Hah, I get that.

I worked my way up the ranks.

Did 30 hours and everything on Easy. Then Medium. Then Hard. Then Extreme.

I've got about 60 hours logged in Extreme now, and it's way more challenging.

I could easily get all the gold medals in 20 hours of play on the lower difficulties, but Extreme took me closer to 30. Very low commodity amounts at stations, so you have to actually fight/mine for what you need.

That, and most spawns of pirates can take you out in 5 seconds, even in the best ship and armor. You have to make creative use of boosts and cloaks to survive, as well as long range weapons.

And, your handling changes depending on how full your cargo hold is.
