Went live today. Who's playing? I'm going to be checking it out, but I don't know how much time I'll have inbetween my WoW raiding and my free EQ server. |

First impression is that I want all other MMO tutorials to be as awesome. Puzzles, climbing, physical interaction.. Pretty sweet. Dwarf Ranger named Lenas on Sardona. |

Dwarf Rangers in DDO are actually pretty sweet. Especially if you go Tempest (Dual Wield specialist) with Dwarven War Axes. Pretty tough little buggers. |

Besides, a green dwarf with a white mohawk was the closest I could get to my Orc Hunter in WoW =P Edit ---- I have no idea at all what I'm doing with gear or feats in this game. I see you can be multiple classes at once or something? Would it be better to be a 20 ranger, or a 12 rng / 6 fight / 2 rog? I have no idea whats going on. |

Wizards of the Coast's forums or something like EN World ought to help with general efficacy questions regarding D&D rules. How they translate to DDO, though, I couldn't begin to tell you. |

Looks like consensus is that I should probably be going 18 rng / 1 rog / 1 ???.. People suggest Monk but that costs $$ to unlock and I'm not at that point yet. |

I've been thinking I want to check this out as I quit playing wow about a month ago. Anyone have a download link or do you have to set up an account first? I checked the website and didn't see anything right away. |

18 Ranger/1 Rogue/1 Monk is the Flavor of the Month build atm. There are quite a few of those builds posted over on the DDO forums. The main reason for going monk is the wisdom bonus to AC. And rogue gets you a ton of skill points (if you start as rogue at lvl 1) and sneak attack dmg. Honestly, some people even leave ranger at lvl 17, and fill out the others. After 17 (where you get Hide in Plain sight) there's not much incentive to take more ranger levels, unless you go to 20. You don't really get anything at 18, for example. The main drawback for this is you lose an additional Favored Enemy and access to the Ranger's "capstone." That is an enhancement that you get for taking 20 levels in a class. They are of varying effectiveness, but the ranger one is pretty good, although it only affects archery. It gives you a 25% attack speed increase when using a bow. Which works really well with the Many shot feat they get for free at level 6. But if you are not going archery, then its no big deal. |

Raell wrote: Do you have to buy the disk? It gave me a download link when I set up an account. Gave it a try last night for a few hours. I kinda like it, but it feels like it's missing something, just like warhammer did. Did all of the first four dungeons on solo/normal, they were surprisingly easy. Did one of them on hard, by myself, and beat it too. That was a close one though, so the elite difficulty would probably be a little too hard. Rolled a dwarf paladin, which it says is a "very good" soloing class, so maybe that's why it was so easy. Combat was really simple though, and there wasn't much to do except click the mob over and over. I would assume it gets better when you start picking up some new abilities though. I'll play a couple more times and see what happens. |

I made Gorse on Thelanis (Tempest ranger). And made an Esrog on Khyber (Arcane Archer). Gorse has been the main one I've been playing. I'm not sure I understand how to level up, but I have been able to spend the action points or whatever they are called. So far I've done everything on Korsov Island (or whatever it is called) except the kill quest. I've been told the 750 is the last one, but the continued respawning of this quest has been annoying. I agree with the "it feels too easy" assessment. I think I'll re-roll a rogue or maybe try a spell caster. Maybe it would be more fun doing some of the group content and trying the hard and elite levels of quests. |

The good: Lonedar Gladestalker was born on Thelanis. The bad: He's probably doomed to be a gimp -- trying to make a ranger/fighter combo focusing on greatsword, and taking the free archery path ranger feats for a secondary role. One rule is that he always have equal or more ranger levels than fighter. At 20 he would probably end up with 4, 6 or 8 fighter levels. Not sure yet. The ugly: My 'puter has started to, I'm educated guessing, overheat and shut itself off after about an hour. Grrr... |

Gorse wrote: I agree with the "it feels too easy" assessment. The easiness is will disappear about level 4 or 5. And that's for a fighter. For a squishy, I would guess the easiness starts to taper once you get off the island (level 2ish). My fighter on Thelanis is named Artorr. (lvl5) |

I don't understand the level stuff. The bar at the bottom of my screen shows something like (1 of 4) Level 9 (10,790 / 11,000) or something like that (I'll make a note later and post). |

Gorse, Once you get Level 1, Rank 5, you can go to your trainer and ask them to level you up. |

Like was just mentioned, the levels are split into 5 ranks each. Each rank gives you an action point, and then levels give you new abilities and such. From what I understand, the level cap is 4 until you find a sigil, and that allows you to level higher (not sure how high though). I understand there's a quest in stormreach that gives them. I'm almost level 3 on my paladin, still on the first island messing around with things. Did all of the dungeons in town on elite except the one in the bar, got to the very last guy and he killed me. It was annoying, was beating him pretty handily, then when he got to 25% I literally could not hit him anymore. Still trying to figure out the favor thing, tried looking online and couldn't really find any great info on it. Mostly trying to figure out if there's a way to tell if someone has a favor turn in or not. Hopefully we'll get that figured out soon enough. |
