After the turnaround numbers EA posted for SW:TOR, I would be surprised to see any MMO not go Free to Play. |

And it's apparently hemorrhaging subscribers. |

Hemorrhaging subscribers is apparently an understatement ... Blizzard is in terrible shape. |

EVE isn't either, although as I was saying in the HOLY CRAP LEVIATHAN TITANKILLITBATPHONE3000PLAYERBATTLE thread, you can play it for free (practically speaking) if you make enough ingame money to purchase pilot license extensions with game currency. |

Fair enough, I had forgotten about EVE, as its totally not my game. So that's two lol |

Frankly, I think the EVE payment model is absolutely brilliant, and one of the best things about the game. It avoids being pay-to-win; having a ton of ISK to spend on expensive ships without the character skills or player skills to back it up just makes you a PVP loot pinata, but by the same token if you're poor, you can get a good sum of liquid ISK for a few bucks; enough to fit out a Tech 1 battleship and start running level 4 missions with money left over. The big problem with it is that I don't see how it could work anywhere but EVE. An essential part of the system is the risk involved in it, and part of the reason that works is that in EVE your ship isn't your character; you can own dozens of ships. That doesn't work in fantasy MMOs which are notoriously averse to PVP. I don't even want EVE PVP in my fantasy MMOs. |

Not sure how long I'll stick with it this time, but I'm back in Rift again. I'm mildly disappointed with myself, however, because I'm not playing a ranger. No matter how I mix 'n' match the Rogue soul trees, I can't find something I love enough to keep me from playing either the cleric (Seraphic Defender - basically a paladin) or mage (Archon/Chloromancer/Warlock). |
