The Glade 4.0

So a buddy convinced me to check out the Defiance game on 360. When I started, it felt like a pretty generic shooter MMO, but I have to admit, it got it's claws in pretty quick.

The hardware limitations are a bit unfortunate, as when you get into some of the bigger arkfalls (randomized events on the maps that start with debris falling from the sky, giant boss battles with 100+ players, etc) the sound gets pretty dropped out. Apparently due to # of sound channels the xbox can play simultanously. Other than that, nice graphics and as long as there aren't hundreds of players around, decent performance on the xbox. (Ah, if only it was cross platform so I could play with my friends on my megabox PC).

The first time I watched an episode of Defiance, and then turned the game on and played an "Episode mission" string that had characters referencing the episode that had aired that week, that was pretty excellent. Nice media convergence.

It will be interesting to see how it develops alongside the show (which apparently has some of the highest ratings Syfy has seen in quite a long time).

Which is odd, because as a show, its alright, but its not the best thing SyFy has put out.

Its entertaining, but on Monday I'm not like "Ooh! New Defiance! Gotta see!"

I save that for WH13, and Oh, cool, Defiance is on after.

I feel the same way. After seeing some of the depth of the world in the game, I cannot wait for them to cross over more. If they could integrate some of the named villains from the game into the show, they'll blow away anything they're currently using. (There really isn't a "villain" in the show yet, other than political squabbles in town).
