Metro: Last Light?

It looks pretty decent, got a 9 on Gamespot (for what that's worth these days). I dig post-apoc stuff. Anybody played it?

I've been playing it for the past few days on PS3.

Pros:
• Environment / Ambience - The devs very much got this right. Lighting is very well done, the outside world looks great.
• Sound - Another high point. The music can be fantastic at times. The environmental and enemy sounds had me looking around frantically in the dark trying to find something.
• Play styles - There is an achievement for not killing a single human in a play through, I like this kind of stuff. You can sneak around, or you can go Rambo, your call.
• A vocal protagonist - You get narration in-between each level and find personal notes scattered throughout the levels for an even further look into the character.

Cons:
• Pacing can be uneven at times
• Storyline so far hasn't surprised me, first twist was obvious
• Creature AI can be overly aggressive, whereas human AI can be pretty stupid. This makes for a very inconsistent battle expectations depending if you're in the metro (humans) vs outside (mutant creatures).
• I have had the game freeze on me one time. Hopefully this can be fixed with a patch, but it made for a very reluctant mission replay.

I generally tell people that I don't like post-apoc games, but the setting in this game is done really well. Is it worth $60? I'm not sure yet, but it's on track.

Get it on X-Box if you decide you want it, DFK!. IIRC, it was known for being a hardware-humbler on PC. Don't know how beastly it's still considered, but I do know it's more recent than your computer. ;)

Yea, I was planning on it, considering a rental for the weekend.

Haven't checked this one out, but I gave the demo for Metro 2033 a spin after burning out on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and wanting something else that was thematically similar.

I rented it for PS3. Didn't play much last night, and I'm trying to follow the plot. Poorly.

Good graphics, so we'll see how it pans out.

It's a direct sequel, so if you haven't played Metro 2033, here's a synopsis:
Spoiler:
In late 2013, a nuclear war occurred. Russia was targeted with atomic bombs, causing severe radiation across Moscow, forcing the rest of the people to live underground in the metro stations away from the deadly effects of radiation. Many animals and humans left behind mutated into creatures known as the Dark Ones, who were left outside for the next 20 years.

In 2033, Artyom (Russian: Артём), a 20-year-old male survivor and one of the first-born in the metro, learns from an elite soldier and mutant hunter, or Ranger, named Hunter that a group of mysterious creatures referred to as the Dark Ones are threatening his station in the Metro. Hunter gives Artyom his dog tags and tells him if he does not come back, he must go to Polis and present these to see if they will help his station.

Artyom must travel through territory occupied by Soviets and a Fourth Reich, and infested with mutants as well as the much changed surface of Moscow. Once in Polis, he meets with a Ranger named Miller, who agrees to help him. Miller knows of a missile silo known as D6 that has the firepower necessary to destroy the Dark Ones. Artyom, Miller, and several other Rangers reactivate the command center for the missiles, and Artyom installs a laser guidance system on a nearby radio tower. After the laser system is installed, Artyom experiences a vivid hallucination induced by the Dark Ones.

After the hallucination, two endings are possible, depending on choices the player makes throughout the game. In the normal ending, Artyom allows the missiles to fire, destroying the Dark Ones. The alternate ending gives Artyom the choice to destroy the laser guidance device, citing a last-minute realization that the Dark Ones were actually attempting to make peaceful contact through the hallucinations.

GameInformer has done several articles about it over the past year, they seem enamored.

Metro 2033 is one of the better PC FPS horror games I've played in a long time. And Last Light adds a lot of great stuff onto it. Is it better than the original? Maybe. I, for one, really enjoyed the series. They are also based on books(Metro 2033 and Metro 2034) which I have been wanting to give a read ever since I played the original. I should probably do that soon.
