I find this really fascinating. I wonder how long it will take before you couldn't pass a blind test of whether a game recording is real.

It's not just the graphic (skins), it's also the animations that make it look realistic.

Surely they've made advancements in that technology as well, but that is where the realism is going to come from.

Speaking of animations...and sports games, have any of you checked out the game Backbreaker? The animations are procedurally generated, not motion capture--makes for very realistic cool looking tackle animations. Every tackle is unique. They need to use this technology in some games worth playing though, not sports games :p

Definitely interesting. Still a long ways to go before it looks natural enough to make me think it's the real thing...

Maybe it's just a quirk of the specific images they chose, but I laughed at 2006 and 2007.
