The only way I can turn off my laptop right now is using the full shutdown option. The Hibernate and Hybrid Shutdown both just log me off and put the computer into sleep mode, it never actually powers off.

Did you just say the only way to turn off your computer is to turn it off?

Well, there are three ways to turn off your computer in Windows 8. Two of them aren't working for me. :P

I wish I could help, but

(a) It's nice to know some things haven't changed, and
(b) Isn't there an "It's a feature" joke in here somewhere.

But, seriously, it's the muons. That was my explanation for anything that randomly changed in Windows for no apparent reason. Why on earth would it suddenly decide that the standby button no longer works the way it should? Something got smacked by a muon, obviously.

Windows has had hibernation and hybrid problems since Windows 7. I'm glad you hadn't run into them since now, but it's nothing new with 8.1.

So far, my only complaints with 8.1 are that it un-installed the Messaging app and that I can no longer set an image as "app background" for the Photos app.

I haven't been able to "wake" a PC running Windows since Windows XP was introduced.
