Just placed my order for a new laptop. I'll mostly be using it for gaming on the couch while I'm at home. I might also be carrying it around at work occasionally.

Here are some of the specs:

    - 4th Generation Intel® Haswell Core™ i7-4700MQ (2.4GHz - 3.4GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache)
    - AMD® Radeon® HD 8970M (4,096MB) PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11
    - 8GB - DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS)
    - 128GB Crucial M4 mSATA SSD - Preconfigured as an OS Drive ( Operating System – Drive C: )
    - 750GB 7200RPM [Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache]

    - Combo Dual Layer SuperMulti DVDRW/CDRW Drive w/ Software
    - 1 x Thunderbolt™ Port
    - 1 x HDMI 1.4a output Port (with HDCP)
    - 4 x USB 3.0 Ports (1 x powered USB port, AC/DC)
    - 1 x eSATA Port (USB 2.0 combo)
    - Intel® Dual Band AC 7260 802.11 A/AC/B/G/N 2.4/5.0GHz + Bluetooth™ 4.0
    - Internal 9-in-1 Card Reader (MMC/RSMMC/SD/Mini SD/SDHC/SDXC/MS/MS Pro/MS Duo)
    - Windows 8 - 64-Bit (64-Bit CD Included)
    - Color programmable illuminated keyboard and touchpad

    Total: $1944

And here are some pics.

I could have gotten dual video cards, in CrossFire / SLI mode, but I really think that would just be overkill. This thing is already more powerful than my desktop PC, which is running all modern games at pretty decent framerates. Not to mention the heat that an SLI setup would generate. Not sure I want that kind of heat generating device sitting in my lap, heh.

I'll only be using 2 of the 4 RAM slots, so I can upgrade later. I'm also planning to add another mSATA SSD drive in the future, and dual booting Windows and Linux. Each OS will have it's own SSD drive. Sounds like fun.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. I'm looking forward to seeing what this thing can do.

It looks like a really nice system. I'm wanting a new laptop and went to that manufacturers site and configured a system and was pleased with the specs.

When you get it, please post your impressions, particularly the heat the thing puts out and the build quality - the keyboard flex and case twist/creaking sounds. I'm coming from a MacBook Pro and I don't think I'd be happy with a plastic case if its not super tight. I've waited over a year for the Retina Haswell MacBook Pro and I'm not convinced the hardware specs will be as focused on graphics performance as I'd want.

LOL, thanks. Yea, there were other models that had similar specs that were less...flashy. But what's the point of that? I wanted something that looked like it meant serious business and this one fits that bill nicely.

BTW, I ordered mine from xoticpc.com. They offer the same models over at sagernotebook.com, for roughly the same price. But xoticpc offered me more customization options.

And Taskiss, here is a review I found of the particular model that I'm getting. He mentions the build quality and the cooling in the review. And keep in mind, his review is based off the dual 780m GPU model.

Quote:
CONCLUSION

The Sager NP9390 offers the highest performing consumer level PC components in a 17" notebook that rival the power of high end desktop PC's. With dual 780m GPU's latest games play at maximum detail at 1080p with ease, easily breaking the 30FPS minmum barrier and in most cases well above 60FPS. This is a gamer's dream if someone is looking for a powerful and portable gaming PC. Not to mention it is actually priced reasonable compared to other laptops with similar equipment.

Cooling performance is more than sufficient even when the GPU's are overclocked modestly. Fan noise is within reason and to be expected when there are a large amount of high TDP parts parked inside a slim chassis of a notebook form factor. The screen is beautiful and as usual, one of many great screen options that Sager offers with their notebooks. Additional accesory lighting is a nice touch, although it strays from Clevo's traditional basic look and may not be for everyone. Speaker bar light and rear tail lights are a bit bright and offering ability to adjust intensity and turn off the other lights would be a welcome addition.

Build quality is very sturdy with great fit and finish. The laptop is solid and no concern of soft spots or fragile areas. Using the 15" keyboard is a bit of disappointment in a 17" form factor, but overall it has a firm feel when typing. Easy access to components, typical of Sager notebooks, is always welcome, and the ability to install up to five mass storage devices and with RAID offers plenty of storage options.

To be honest it's hard to find much fault with this machine, and what I do find undesirable to me is really personal preference like touchpad lighting and glossy screen. Overall if I had to rate this machine on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a solid 9.

It's a big honking data transfer technology standard, you can use it to connect to like 6 different devices that can be storage, communications, or display devices, all at the same time...like stream mega-hd content in from storage on one device and display that content on a display device at the same time, without sweating the transfer rate.

Was developed by Intel and debuted on Apple products so people tended to hate it, but it's a pretty awesome port.

10Gbit/s per channel and you can daisy chain up to 6.

6? That's it? Your mom has daisy-chained more than 6.

So Apple refreshed the MacBook Pro today... I'm convinced now. :)
