Microsoft seriously (siri-ously?) just named their voice-command for mobile platforms "Cortana" and yes, Jen Taylor will provide the voice.

That's ... pretty cool, actually.
Not terribly thrilled that the activation mechanism is being described as "push an on screen button", though.
Sounds like it's going to be a standard app and quick access will require pinning it to the home screen.
Honestly, I'd much prefer they incorporate this as a replacement to the current "voice activation" feature which is accessed by means of a 2-second hold on the Win key.

It also has quick toggles for things like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Yes, finally!

Interesting. Cortana replaces the Bing search app, and the old voice activation feature has been disabled.

Love that she can handle location-based reminders.
"Cortana, remind me next time I'm at the liquor store to pick up a bottle of scotch." :)

Technically search still functions exactly the same using bing, you just see a circle and some text instead of a pretty picture with notes.

On a side note, WP 8.1 is the **** and Cortana is awesome. I forget things all the time so, "Remind me to pick up _____ when I leave work" has become extremely useful.

What do you mean by voice activation being disabled? Hold the search button and it will activate the mic.

I said the *old* voice activation has been disabled. Holding down the Win key for 2 seconds does nothing.

New note: Looks like Cortana is going to replace my IMDB app. I only ever used it for finding out "who plays do-and-so in that movie/TV show", and asking Cortana seems to work just about as well, and more quickly.

Also, hurray for Swype :)
