My friend who works at Google has one. He seems to like it, and recommends it. To be fair, he got it like a month before Google bought it. |

My father-in-law likes his as well. With Phe out of the house more now, I'm wondering if the energy savings would offset the high price. I almost want to get it for aesthetics alone (SO PRETTY) but $250 is a little high for that. |

Mine only programs M-F with separate settings for Saturday and Sunday. Some of the fancier ones can program all 7 days independently. |

I have one, along with a Nest Protect (smoke/CO alarm). I like it. I like that I can set the thresholds for when the heater or cooler will kick on and still have a temperature buffer range in between the two. I also like being able to set the temperature from my phone. If I'm too lazy to go downstairs, I just open the app. If I have to leave for an extended vacation I set it to "away," which is a state where it doesn't heat or cool as much as if you were home (to a temp that you set). And on the way back, I can tell the thermostat via my phone to stop being in away mode, so that when I finally get home it's already up to the temperature I want. It also learns how long it takes to heat or cool your house, so it will not only give you an approximate timeframe to get up to temp, but it will also learn when to turn on so that the house is the temp you want at the time you want. So if you want the house to warm up to 70 degrees at 6am, then it will figure out at what time it needs to start heating to do that (rather than just turning on the heater at 6am, like most timed thermostats). It will also let the fan run for several minutes after turning off the heat/cool, since it knows just circulating the air will bring the desired temps without having to waste more gas/power. If you have a protect, it also integrates somewhat with the thermostat. If it detects CO, and it determines a correlation between it and the furnace, the thermostat will shut down the furnace. As for the price, the only thing I paid for was the protect so I can't comment if the cost justifies it. I did own a different timed thermostat and it worked ok, but I had to manually set the time periods, I could not access it via my phone or WiFi, and I had to manually switch it from heat to cold. Considering how much I like it and how configurable it is (and it's decent at learning on its own), I'd say the price could very well be justified. Especially when you consider it can integrate with other Nest components. Hope this helps. Edit: Since Nest was bought by Google, if you're a conspiracy theorist who dislikes Google having too much information on you... and since Nest can physically see when you're home and also sends data to the cloud... it may also be something to consider. Personally, I don't care about Google knowing about what temperatures I like or if I am home or not. |
