Any recommendations for an external Blu-Ray burner and related software for my MacBook Pro? For the hardware, I'm considering this drive: Buffalo Media Station BDXL, but I've only just begun looking into things, so any other suggestions would be much appreciated. On the software front, this article, and most others I've seen, seem to suggest that MacGo Mac Blu-Ray Player is the software of choice for Mac users trying to watch Blu-Rays, but this software apparently requires an internet connection to verify decryption codes or something ("Because the software needs to acquire the decryption keys required for playback online, you need an Internet connection for it to work."), which is a complete deal-breaker. Generally, I would only be watching Blu-Rays on my MacBook if I was traveling (meaning I'm unlikely to have an active Net connection at that point.) Is that really the only/best game in town for Mac users? |

There's not a lot of option, no...though MakeMKV + Handbrake equal quick, easy, high-quality ripping (especially once you make a little Terminal change to allow Handbrake to rip directly from the Blu-ray, rather than Blu-ray -> MKV -> Handbrake). As far as drives go, I've been very happy with this little fella (I required a Blu-ray burner), but unfortunately it looks like it's been discontinued. |
