Just curious how often you guys replace these things? The things I read online about it all seem to say you can't easily know whether they're still providing any protection against surges and recommend using the manufacturer's recommendation. We just had a storm that knocked our power out enough that my Xbox power brick had to be unplugged from the strip and plugged back in, so guessing it's probably time for me. I just haven't been able to find any sort of prophylaxis for electronics power health that doesn't sound like overkill. Thoughts? |

That's the first that I've ever heard they degrade. I generally buy a new one when I run out of outlets, which seems to happen with surprising frequency these days. I did some quick research, and it looks like they essentially have a finite amount of surge protection from the get-go (and higher end models will even show you the amount of protection remaining). If you live in an area with excessive thunderstorms, replace more frequently, etc. Looks like I may have some protectors to replace. |

Some of the better ones they sell stop supplying power when they can't protect from surges anymore. If you really want to know when it's time to replace a power strip that kind might be a good choice. Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk |
