With some of our current Revit models and the linked models from engineers to coordinate interferences, our older 32 bit machines are running into serious performance problems, especially at the memory level. I have been given the go ahead to build a test system using 64 bit Windows couple with the 64 bit versions of Revit and Desktop to check performance gains. I'm looking for both suggestions on hardware and warning about pitfalls. I will be cannibalizing an older system, salvaging the case (full size tower), monitors, etc, so I will basically be replacing the guts... CPU suggestion? I tend to get the next down from the current "best", as it is normally a nominal performance difference with a significant cost difference. MB suggestion? My current thinking is 8 GB of RAM, but given the cost of RAM, it wouldn't be hard to convince me of upping that. I have also tended to use Asus boards in the past, but I'm not narrow minded about manuf., as long as the quality is there. |

I have all that, decent 64 bit CPU, ASUS MB, and 8 gig of mb. I still get lag occasionally, but I think it is mostly on the other end. |

Lag isn't the problem, its processing power/memory. |

Look into i5's. They're great performers, and fit your buying patterns. The Intel boards for them are rock solid dependable, too. |
