Want to strap a pack onto your back and fly away - no pilot's licence required? With the help of Martin Aircraft, you can now make your dream a reality.
Martin Aircraft Co. of New Zealand has plans to begin manufacturing personal jet packs, which will cost about $77,000 each, according to the Telegraph. The packs were first unveiled last July by inventor Glenn Martin.
With a 200 horsepower dual-propeller, the jet packs are capable of traveling 30 miles in 30 minutes on a full fuel tank, the Telegraph reports. Recent tests have shown that the newest models can rocket as high as 1.5 miles off the ground and move as fast as 60 mph. They will weigh less than 254 pounds and will not require a pilot’s license to operate.
Even though the packs don't require a pilot's licence, the company requires users to pass a training program before flying with a jet pack.
Richard Lauder, the chief executive of Martin Aircraft, envisions the pack as a new resource for emergency services and the military.
“This could be life-saving stuff,” Lauder told the Telegraph.
