If anyone is wondering, the idea apparently originated with David Rudolf Bakker's blog (Dutch). The original post has since been moved to the lifehacking.nl blog (also Dutch).

No more USB cables behind your desk for losses <€ 1

How often are you the one that you (USB) cable disappears behind the desk? And you need the knees to the cable back above table, no it is not pleasant office.

A very easy and inexpensive solution to a few binder clips (to be known as banker's clips or foldback clips called). Squeeze the legs of one eye to eye together to get out of the clip so you can easily make over the cable. Make eye back on the binder clip. Cliff the binder clip to the edge of your desk (eg behind your monitor) and go!

Binder clips are for sale in a commercial office or maybe you even have office located somewhere. The binder clips on these images cost me only € 0.35 each.

Very easy, especially if you have a laptop but no docking station! (Photos by drbakker.)

Heh. I think they meant:

No more USB cables behind your desk for (losses < €1)

But it is definitely not a pleasant office when there are losses of cables. I hate when I need the knees to the cable!

They make some fairly thick clips.

^^^Linky to OfficeMax... I suppose also that if the binder clip gets too big to prevent the cable from falling through, you could always just increase the cable thickness with a rubber band.

Also, spoilered for hugeness:

On the larger clips, you could just either crimp the wire a little tighter with some pliers or something, or wrap a rubber band around the narrow part of the opening once you've threaded the cable through.

Nice, simple, effective.

Okay...not that I wasn't warned, but why on earth would someone upload a 2592 x 1944 photo of a binder clip? The mind boggles.
