I have these in my house. I have 2 pair of the 85mbps powerline adapters from Netgear forming one network. They've worked fine for the year or so I've had them, but they're a pale comparison to a true ethernet LAN. Transferring a file from my desktop to my file server, I'm getting about 930 kilobytes per second throughput, which is about 8 megabits per second. That should be ok when going from an internet connection, but if you have a lot of intranet traffic, it may be frustrating. I haven't had any reliability issues with the network.
Personally, I'm going to try to run some cat5e through my house this weekend (and beyond) to phase out the powerline network. I'll keep my wireless network though, because it's convenient even if it's slow.
