What do you guys all use for your spy/mal/ad-ware protection for Windows Vista? Just looking for the best one that is the least resource intensive, something that won't affect windows to much. Thanks. |

Malwarebytes is supposed to be pretty good. I'm using Norton 360 on all my computers, and unlike the previous generations of Norton, it is very light on my system- and very fast on full system scans. As a plus, it comes with 2gb of online backup space and automatic backup systems. I run it with Spybot: Search and Destroy, and I'm thinking of adding malwarebytes to the mix, after my recent bout with a Trojan. I didn't have 360 installed at the time, just my old, lapsed subscription Norton 2006- I think the new Norton would have caught it, but I'm not sure. |

Norton + Spybot + Malware when I think something fishy is going on. I don't think there is a universal catch-all program so you almost have to build your own with multiple programs. |

AVG free for general AV purposes. If I need to clean something off, antimalwarebytes. Or Malwarebytes. Or however the hell it's spelled. |

Combo Fix works, but sometimes a little too well... I consider it a last resort. I use Malware Bytes, Spybot, and Microsoft Security Essentials. |

I've been quite pleased with Avira's Antivir. I run that and Windows Defender, along with malware scanners loaded as necessary. That, plus conscientious browsing habits, serves me well. |

I love ESET's "NOD32." Norton has left me in the bitter cold since 2005 and McAfee treated me poorly. I've renewed my subscription to ESET for the past 3 years and will happily continue to do so. The software is extremely good at detecting unknown and wild viruses. But my favorite thing about it? It's written entirely in Assembly. So it is smoking fast and very light. I personally use their full security suite package (Firewall, etc.) along with the AV. The biggest compliment I can give it is: I was working on my computer for at least half an hour before I realized that the program was in the middle doing a full system scan (I noticed only slight lag when opening up windows explorer, which made me start to wonder a little bit). |

Norton 360 is the same way now, Numbuk- it does full system scans in the middle of the day while I'm working, and without the pop-up to notify me, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. |

Glad to hear Norton is in a better place. But, they had their chance with me and they blew it. I was using Norton products since the '90s. And I gave them a solid year to get their act together before I dumped their asses on the street. ESET is the way to go for me now, and it would take a hell of a lot to pry me away from them. I love 'em. |

I tried Antivir but had some problems with it at times (probably my fault), so I went back to AVG free version. When I want to view stuff or download stuff that may be in question, I use FF with noscript, and so far I've done well....... I probably should go back to using spybot or one of the other programs I once used.......as another layer. |
