So I have two desktop machines. My old one (NEWCHODE - Windows 7 Home) and my new one (CHODEPRO - Windows 7 Pro). I use the same login name on both machines but do not have passwords set up on them. I want to share out the whole C:\ on NEWCHODE. I thought it was possible to do this without having to use passwords. I did it on my XP machine.

In any case, I have the share on NEWCHODE set up to give everyone Full Control. But when I try to access it from CHODEPRO I get the message:

This is how I have the share set up on NEWCHODE:

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Edit: I was wrong, I get the message saying its unavailable even when I try to share individual folders via the homegroup.

What do the NTFS permissions look like? Also, can you access it with "\\newchode\c"?

I had to actually turn on Password Protected Sharing. Not sure why this mattered but it did the trick.

Thanks for the update. Interesting. I'll file it away in my "advice for home users" mental drawer.

I think the better question is why shouldn't it be named Chode?
