**disclaimer** I am asking this only about legally owned (purchased CD or iTunes music) and do not have any pirated music that this would apply to. (some people do not care about that distinction... I do.)

I am wondering how this can be done easiest...

I have close to 14 Gb worth of music (small in comparison to many), and I am constantly trying to figure out what to put on my iPod or hold off on. But my phone can hold up to a 32Gb micro SD card.... so I am wondering how I could go about converting all of it to MP3 so I could put it on a 16Gb Micro SD card and not even worry about the iPod.

any suggestions

Supposedly you can do it with Itunes itself.

I was looking for a way to do just this for some files that I downloaded, but before I got around to trying it I found the very same files were out there in mp3 format anyway, so I had no need to try it.

There's iTunes and iTunes Plus.

iTunes Plus can be converted because it lacks DRM. You can tell it because Kind = Purchased AAC.

iTunes (older, DRM) = Protected AAC.

iTunes Plus is easy - Advanced > Create MP3 version after setting your import settings in Edit > Preferences to import MP3.

iTunes can be upgrades to iTunes Plus for $.30/song or less.

In iTunes, click on iTunes Store, and if signed in, it may say iTunes Plus <NUMBER> in the last line of the Quick Links.

I have 50 songs which can be upgraded for $9.30.

your link does not like me... it says I do not have iTunes on my computer... despite it being open.

For the webpage version...

I think the itunes.apple.com link requires ActiveX be enabled (which is weird unto itself).

okay... so looking at that: upgrading my songs to iTunes plus.... figuring all of my songs need to be converted (I do not remember which ones are in fact pulled from my CDs, which are still packed). It would cost me close to $900 to upgrade my music.

I think I will just pass on that.

It should be relatively easy to figure out what songs you bought from iTunes using the "Purchased" playlist. I'm assuming that converting your CD-sourced songs would be free...but ya never know...

Apple website requires Microsoft browser to interact with Apple software... I think the Internet just imploded over the irony.

DS,

Open iTunes
Click on iTunes Store
Look for Quick Links under Sign in or your account address
Sign in if not signed in
Do you see "iTunes Plus <number>"?

Clicking on that will give you a total.

Kaffis,

Until iTunes 8.2, iTunes Store on Windows used Internet Explorer, not WebKit.

That's part of the reason Win2K can't connect to iTunes Store (anymore).

I assume that's several albums and some singles... because you can have 56 singles (which would be $16.80 or less) or 56 albums (which could be $168-$234 or more) or somewhere in between.

I was so glad when the studios allowed iTunes Plus for all songs in iTunes.
