You need version 8 or maybe the latest version. Go to about:flags Turn on "GPU Accelerated Compositing" Pages now load almost instantly, provided you have a graphics card. |

Im using Chrome to try - its faster than Safari, but I really miss 'ClickToFlash', a plugin that default blocks all flash on a page but leaves a placeholder in that you can click to make it load - is there a good equivilant for Chrome? The options there imply there is, but I dont know how to do it ;-p Cheers M |

Sort of. wrench -> options -> under the hood -> content settings -> plug-ins Select "block all" When a page comes up that has something you want to view in Flash, there will be an icon in the URL bar you can click to allow flash on that page. Temporary exceptions in Chrome are a bit of a hassle, but once you've established a list of permanent exceptions for sites you view often the overall browsing experience is pretty nice. |

So yesterday, I ran a bunch of tests on my brother's computer... he has the 2nd best video card available. His GPU performed 60 times faster than his processor, although the processor was using just one thread... his processor has 4 cores and is capable of 8 threads. I used both to create a Mandelbrot image. There's relatively new libraries by ATI and Nvidia that let you execute code on your video card. The video card has a slower clock rate, but used 400 "threads" for the same task. Parallel computing FTW. |

Haven't really used it myself, but I would assume it works about the same way as the Firefox version (which works like what Suineko described). |

The GPU acceleration is nice, though the side tabs thing doesn't work for me, and Chrome just updated itself to the newest version like 5 mins ago. |

Once you enable the side tabs, you need to Right-Click on one of your normal tabs and choose to use the Side Tabs. |

Ahh...i actually had to hit the "restart chrome now" button in the about:flags window instead of simply closing it and reopening it, then it worked. Sidetabs are great for people with widescreen monitors. |

I'm not sold on side tabs yet. I don't mind the position (though, for some reason, I think I would have stuck them on the right), and I think I could get over my initial impression that they stack wrong (oldest tabs sink to the bottom, which wasn't my expectation -- I went "why is ctrl-tab cycling *backwards* through my tabs?")... but even if I did, they're still behaving oddly. If I start at one page, and open up some links in new tabs, it sticks them as the "next" few tabs (granted, I have to ctrl-shift-tab to the new ones, now, which, as I said, still feels backwards after an hour or so). So far, so good. So, if I ctrl-shift-tab to the next one, and open some MORE links in new tabs, again, it makes them the next tabs. Good, good. Now that I'm done with this page, I close it, and it goes to the first of my third tier of nested tabs. All is well so far. I close the first of the third tier of tabs, and it goes to the second of the third tier. Again, this is behaving as I expect it. I finish out my third tier, and close it... And it makes the first tier tab active again. What? No, no. See, you're supposed to progress forwards through my newer tabs until I get to the last one that I opened from the first tier tab, then you go back to the root tab. Liking the other newish options so far, though. |

It's not about saving vertical space, it's allowing large numbers of tabs to have enough room to display some text of the title bar to differentiate them. That said, it needs a scrollbar or something. Since they don't compress, it cuts down on the number of accessible tabs. I refuse to acknowledge that perhaps my browsing habits are the problem. |
